Connector Refinement and Signal Mapping
Creating Variant Signal Mappings in the Signal Map for an Interface
Connector
You can create variant signals when editing the signal map for an interface connector. A variant signal is a signal that can travel to different cavities depending on the active options in a vehicle.
Note
A variant wire is a wire that is connected to different cavities depending on the active options in a vehicle. When editing a signal map, variant wires may be created as a side-effect of modifying mappings that already have wiring by:
Refining a connector using the Copy connector action
Creating a copy of a mapping (using the Duplicate Cavity or Copy To action for a mapping)
Defining multiple variance conditions for a signal using the Manage Variance action
Prerequisites
If you want to do this before running wiring synthesis, you must also define a preferred signal. This step is included in the procedure below.
The option codes required for the variant option expressions must exist in the project.
Procedure
Select the interface connector in the Diagram Window or Design Browser (Design tab) and either:
Right-click the selected object and choose Signal Map.
Press Space Bar and enter Signal Map.
The Signal Map Dialog Box for Interface Connector displays. If you are doing this before running wiring synthesis, on the Signal Mappings tab, specify a preferred signal for each row with a signal for which you want to create variant mappings.
Note You do not have to specify a preferred signal if doing this after running wiring synthesis.Still on the Signal Mappings table, select the rows for the Signals for which you want to create variant mappings and click the Manage Variance () button; the Manage Variance
Dialog Box displays.
- Add the variant option expressions that are applied to mappings
for the signals:
Click the Add a new option () button; the Set Variant
Dialog Box displays.
Define a variant option expression and click OK; the variant option expression
displays in the Manage Variance dialog box.
Repeat steps a and b for each variant option expression
that are applied to the variant signal mappings.
Click OK on the
Manage Variance dialog box; for each of the selected signal rows,
duplicate rows are created so that there is one row for each of the
variant option expressions that you have applied. The Signal and Wire
columns display the variant option expression in brackets ().
- On the Signal Mappings table, specify the cavity to which each
mapping of the variant signals is mapped.
Note You can move, swap, and copy signal mappings when editing them in the Signal Mappings tab of a Signal Map dialog box. See Moving, Swapping, and Copying Signal Mappings.
