Adding a Variant Position
Connector
You can place a connector whose position on a harness is determined by the derivative in which it exists. Variants of a connector (known as the primary position connector) can be created when the connector is originally placed, or can be created later. Once one or more variants have been created, the variant wires needed to connect the new variant connectors are created automatically.
Procedure
Place a connector onto the harness design following the steps for Adding a Connector with an Associated Library Part.Note Ensure that the connector for which you are creating a variant has an Option Expression defined.
Select one of the entities related to the connector, and then either:Press Space Bar and enter Edit.
Right-click the selected entity and select Edit Connector.
Double-click one of the related entities.
The Edit Connector Dialog Box is displayed.
On the Variant Positions tab, click the New button. The Node Selection Dialog Box is displayed, listing all branch-end nodes at which no components have been placed.
Select one or more nodes, and then click OK. A new line is added to the variant positions table for each node selected.
Specify the Option Expression in which the connector variant will be placed at each node.
Click OK.
Results
The new variants are placed onto the design at the nodes specified, named according to the node at which they are placed.
All connector entities are placed as styled for the primary position connector.
The original connector’s Is Primary Position attribute is selected.
The new variants’ Primary Position Connector attributes are updated to display the Name of the original connector.
All wires terminating at the primary position connector have the connector’s option expression appended to theirs in the form:
(Wire Option Expression) && (Connector Expression)
Variant wires are created automatically, identical to the wires from which they are created in all but their option expression. This will be appended with the option expression assigned to the variant position connector in Step 5, as described for the primary connector’s wires.
If you are creating a variant by editing an existing connector, the new variants are styled according to the defaults configured in the currently applied style set. Any styling overrides applied to the primary position connector are ignored.
The new variant position connectors and variant wires are added to the Harness Design Browser.
