Adding a

Multicore with an Associated Library Part

You can add a multicore to a harness design by associating a multicore from the library.

Procedure

  1. Press Space Bar and enter Multicores; alternatively, press the shortcut key M, or select the multicore () button from the Home ribbon. The Edit Multicores Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. Click the Add () button.A new multicore is added to the Multicores list, with a default name and a default type of Sheath.

  3. Select the new multicore and click the Edit () button. The Edit Multicore Dialog Box is

displayed.

  1. On the General tab, enter a Name for the multicore or accept the default offered.

  2. Click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Library Part field. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a multicore from the library. The associated multicore will be displayed in the Library Part field.

  3. (Optional) For each end of the multicore, you can configure cut back attributes (or untwisted attributes for twisted multicores) as well as additional multicore end components on the Ends tab. See also the Edit Multicore dialog box topic.

  4. (Optional) You can configure multicore marker information on the Additional Info tab. See also the Edit Multicore dialog box topic.

  5. Click OK, to open the Edit Multicores dialog box, displaying the new multicore in both the Available and Selected lists.

  6. Click the [+] symbol to the left of the multicore to view its internal configuration.Inner cores are displayed along with their material, specification, and color but they are not associated with any of the wires in the design by default.

  7. Perform one of the following actions to associate wires to the inner cores:Select the inner core and select a matching wire from the Available list (only matching wires are available for selection), and then click Add to associate the wire. Leave the inner core unassociated, and then accept the offer to create an appropriate wire automatically when closing the dialog box (see Step 11).

  8. Click OK. If any of the inner cores configured within the multicore have not been associated with a wire that exists in the design, a message will be displayed asking if you want to create and assign new wires to these inner cores:Click Yes, to create new wires automatically, based on the color, material, and specification requirements specified in the library part and named according to the naming convention in use. These new wires will be associated with the inner cores for which they are created.

Click No, to maintain the inner cores as unassigned. You can assign wires later by editing the multicore.

Results

  • The multicore is added to the Harness Design Browser, along with any nested multicores. If you selected Yes, any wires created will also be added to the Harness Design browser. Note Once a multicore has been added to a harness design, any wires that were added to the multicore configuration that were not previously terminated at a cavity or splice will still need to be terminated manually. See also Terminating a Wire at a Cavity.

  • If you are creating a multicore of type Sheathed and the library part includes a shield, a shield is created and added to the new multicore structure automatically.

  • Nested multicores are created automatically based on the requirements specified in the library part, and are named based on the parent multicore name, appended first with innercore and then with an incrementing number, based on the order it was added to the multicore. Inner cores and screens are displayed the same as detailed for the parent multicore.
