Bundle Junction Sequence

You can use the Bundle Junction Sequence functionality to define, store, and maintain the “clocking” sequence of bundles at junction nodes.

The bundle clocking position at junctions can be important design information, especially for bundles with large diameters, where the correct clocking position of branches can have a significant impact to the assembly process (harness into vehicle).

General Behavior

  • When you set a sequence on a junction, the system stores this information against the node at the design level. The sequence is then available on all instances of the node on all diagrams in the design.

  • You can only set a bundle junction sequence at junctions with three or more bundles.

  • Bundles with a zero graphical length are not included in any stored sequences. You can override the graphical length with a positive value to include such bundles, see Overriding Graphical Bundle Length.

  • The names of bundles in stored bundle sequences are automatically updated with new names that may be created where you split or merge existing bundles.

  • The system prevents you setting a bundle junction sequence for junction nodes that have: Take out bundles that fully overlap.

Take out bundles that have initial overlapping segments.

Information is displayed in the Output Window.

  • When you copy and paste design data which includes junction nodes with bundle sequence information, the stored sequence is also copied. When pasted, the system automatically updates the sequence to refer to the newly created bundles rather than the original source bundles. Any bundles which were part of the original bundle sequence, but not copied, are not included in the pasted bundle sequence.

  • When a bundle is deleted or disconnected, the system removes it from the sequence information. This is applicable to any action where a bundle is removed, such as copy and paste, composite or modular breakdown, and capture and apply. If there are less than three bundles at a junction, the system automatically unsets the sequence.

  • The system includes bundle junction sequence information in any Available Capital Harness Designer Connectors exchange actions.

  • You can optionally layout bundles in accordance with bundle junction sequence information when you use the Auto-Layout action to apply an orthogonal layout to a diagram.

  • The Engineering Change Order capture and apply functionality considers all changes to the bundle junction sequence (for example, set / unset / changed order, and bundles added / removed).

Composite

and Modular Breakdown

  • When you run Composite or Modular Breakdown: Bundle sequence definitions are automatically propagated to the module / derivative design.

Where a bundle gets removed from a module / derivative because it does not match the option / module codes of the child design, the system automatically updates any affected sequence definition to remove non-existent bundles from the sequence on child designs.

Where you choose to merge bundles during composite breakdown, the system automatically updates any affected bundle sequence definitions to use the merged bundle names on the child designs.

Design

Rule Check (DRC)

You can run a DRC (Inconsistent bundle sequence at junction, see “DRC Descriptions”) to check, on all diagrams in a design, if the current order of bundles at junction nodes (that have their bundle junction sequence stored) is in the same sequence as stored against the design.

Styling

You can use styling to add decorations to indicate the sequence at configured junction nodes:

  • Bundle Sequence attribute returns the sequence set at a node as a comma separated list.

  • Use a visibility Bundle Sequence Defined to conditionally display decorations.

Sequence

Direction

  • By default, the system sets and interprets the sequence in a clockwise direction. The sequence direction is the same for all junctions on a diagram.

Different diagrams in a design can have different sequence directions.

  • The default for the diagram can change where you flip the whole harness or a section of a harness, that contains the “majority” of junction nodes with a sequence set. In such cases: The system automatically interprets the sequence in the reverse order and makes this reversed direction the new default for this diagram.

This change of direction has the following effect: The “Inconsistent bundle sequence at junction” design rule check will report the “minority” of nodes as being in reverse order.

The system sets and interprets any subsequent sequences you configure at junction nodes on this diagram in the updated direction.
