Example of Exclusive Mappings in a Slot

In a signal map for a slot, you can toggle whether the Signal Mappings tab displays mappings that contain option expressions that are mutually exclusive as defined in the options or plan, and are therefore invalid.

Note

The system considers only the expressions of the connector, device, and device pin when determining exclusivity. It does not consider any option defined on a net during this checking.

In this example of a slot, there are two connectors (one with option expression LHD and one with RHD) on the left. They connect to a generalized connector in the middle. The generalized cavity connects the LHD connector to a device with option expression LHD, and the RHD connector to a device with RHD.

This is possible because LHD and RHD are mutually exclusive so RHD cannot be active when LHD is active, and vice versa. That means, the same generalized cavity can be used for both.

By default, the Signal Mappings tab for the slot shows just two mappings for this scenario.

However, the signal map recognizes not only a mapping of the LHD connector to the LHD device, and of the RHD connector to the RHD device, but also a mapping of the LHD connector to the RHD device, and of the RHD connector to the LHD device. The last two mappings are invalid because LHD and RHD are mutually exclusive.

You can view those invalid mappings in the tab by clicking the View exclusive mappings filter button ().

A tooltip on the Info icon () displays a message about why those mappings are invalid:

This example used variantly placed devices but the scenario can also apply to devices or device pins with option expressions that contain options that are mutually exclusive. The tooltip on the Info icon will state:

The pin and device mapping contains options expressions that are mutually exclusive as defined in the options/plan. Signal <signal_name> is never active due to the device variant placement expression.

Some invalid exclusive mappings are always displayed in the Signal Mappings tab.

In this example, the RHD device has been unplaced, leaving just the LHD device.

For this scenario, the signal map displays two mappings.

There is a valid mapping for the LHD connector to the LHD device.

There is an invalid mapping for the RHD connector to the LHD device. That row is shown with a warning icon () because it is the only mapping for that connector cavity to a device pin. As such, it needs to be fixed as it can never be active and there is no mapping that can be active for the RHD connector.

The tooltip on the warning icon indicates the issue:
