Adding a Device Based on a Symbol
You can add a device based on a device symbol.
Prerequisites
- The symbol must exist in the symbol library. See “Creating a New Symbol” in the Capital Symbol Designer User Guide.
Procedure
- From the Symbol Browser:Double-click the symbol name.
Select the symbol name: Press Space Bar and enter Symbol Device, and then select Home > Device > Symbol from the Search Ribbon dropdown list.
Double-click the symbol in the symbol preview pane.
If the symbol is not a composite symbol, move the cursor over the diagram and the symbol will be displayed next to the cursor; if the symbol is a composite symbol, the Add Symbol dialog box is displayed. Note See Composite Symbols for a description of composite symbols.
If the symbol is not a composite symbol, click to place the device. Skip the remaining steps in this procedure.
If the symbol is a composite symbol, select the composite symbol or the blocks to use in the Add Symbol dialog box. Choose to place pins As Reference, and the click OK.Tip See Reference Pins for a description of reference pins. When placing a symbol, you can press R to rotate the symbol or F to flip it.
The composite symbol or the first symbol block is displayed next to the cursor.
- For a composite symbol, click to place the device; for symbol blocks, click to place the first block and then click again for each subsequent block.
Results
- The device is added to the diagram as a symbol.
Note
If you add a device as a symbol such that one or more of its pins are touching the side of a plug that can connect with a device, the plug will be mated with the device and matching pins will be added as required.
You cannot resize a symbol in Capital Logic Designer. To resize a symbol graphic, use Capital Symbol Designer and then update the symbol graphic on the diagram. See Updating Symbols.
