ICD Publication From Capital Logic Designer

There are two methods to automate the publication of ICDs from Capital Logic Designer into Capital Device Modeler, by using a webservice or an external program, for example, one that can run as a scheduled task.

One of the “ICD creation from Logic designs and build lists” project preferences must be selected to enable for all designs or released designs only.

Additionally, the Build List Release Level Change or (Design) Release Level Change webservices must be enabled to publish ICDs using webservices. See also Default Web Services in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.

Using background tasks to automate the ICDs changes from Capital Logic Designer within Capital Device Modeler provides a number of benefits. It offers the device engineer granular control over the ICD publishing process, which includes checks available in the webservice process itself. This helps reduce potential errors and, additionally, facilitates quicker and more regular ICD updates.

The background task can be driven by a number of different triggers. These could include, for example:

• When the release level of a design is changed, and the engineer wants the design to be saved as an ICD in the background.

• When the release level of a build list containing your designs is changed, and the engineer wants the designs to be saved as ICDs in the background.

• The requirement to periodically publish all the designs of a build list or project as ICDs.

• The device engineer wants to publish designs as ICDs using an external (for example, a command line) utility.

Once the webservices are enabled, following a release level or build list release level change, the webservice is triggered and the ICD is automatically processed in the background. The updated ICD can then be viewed using Capital Device Modeler.

Tip

The log file (displayed in the console window) contains information on the task, such as its progress and details of publication. It also contains a hyperlink, accessed by double-clicking, that opens the ICD within Capital Device Modeler.

External applications can also run background tasks, for example, a command line utility running a batch file, using the Capital Integration Server, that runs background ICD Publication. Such a utility, as well as a compiled example webservice, can be obtained through Siemens Communities.
