Using Diagrams
There are various ways you can open, create, edit, copy, and delete a diagram for an existing harness design. You can also create a diagram at the same time as creating the design to which it belongs.
See also Using Harness Designs.
Prerequisites
- Ensure you have the correct licenses in place. You need a valid license to use: Capital Formboard Designer full scale diagrams.
Diagrams that use a style set, other than the default style sets.
Please contact your Siemens representative to obtain the correct license.
Procedure
Determine the action to want to take:
| If you want to... | Do the following... |
|---|---|
| Open a Diagram | Open the project containing the design you want to edit. Navigate to the design in the harness design browser and expand it until the diagram is visible. Either: Double-click the diagram. Right-click the diagram and select Open. |
| Open a diagram as Read-only | Note You cannot open Merged Formboard diagrams as read‑only. Open the project containing the design to edit. Navigate to the design in the harness design browser and expand it until the diagram is visible. Right-click the required diagram name and select Open (Read Only). The diagram opens as read-only. The diagram name is appended with “(Read Only)” in the Diagram window. You can view the diagram, but also other users can subsequently open the same diagram with full editing access. See also the “Examples” section. |
| Create a Diagram | Right-click a design in the Project browser, and select New Diagram. The New Harness Diagram Dialog Box displays. Enter a Name for the diagram. Select the Style Set to associate with the diagram. Note Style sets control how data is displayed on a diagram, as well as offering configuration options for the behavior of the diagram itself. See “Style Sets” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide to manage style sets. If you are creating a second or subsequent diagram for a design, specify the Reference Diagram to use as a basis for the new diagram. Note The option to create multiple diagrams for a design is a licensed operation. If you do not have the required license, this option is unavailable. Select Apply orthogonal alignment to bundles to create your new diagram with an orthogonal bundle layout. See Automatic Bundle Layout. Click OK. The diagram is created and placed beneath the design to which it belongs in the Project browser. If you specified a Reference Diagram, the diagram is pre‑populated with all existing content. |
| Edit the attributes / properties of a diagram | Navigate to the diagram to edit in the Project browser, right-click and select Edit. The Edit Harness Diagram Dialog Box is displayed. Make any changes required to the diagram attributes or properties. Click OK. |
| Delete a Diagram | Navigate to the diagram to delete in the Project browser, right-click and select Delete. A message is displayed asking you to confirm the deletion; click Delete to proceed. |
| Close a Diagram | Click the cross button () in the top-right corner of the Diagram window (or on the tab if you are viewing the diagram in Tabbed mode). The following checks are performed: If the diagram has not been saved, you are prompted to save it before closing. Click Save and Close to save, Discard & Close to close without saving, or Cancel to abort the close action. If any outstanding processes are still running, a message is displayed to warn you and you are prevented from closing the diagram. If both checks are satisfied, the diagram is closed. Note You can close any opened diagram(s) via diagram tabs shown below the currently visible diagram. See Managing and Navigating Open Diagrams in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide. |
| Copy a Diagram | Right-click the required diagram in the harness browser and select Copy. The Copy Harness Diagram Dialog Box displays. Enter a new name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field to select from a list of pre-specified harness diagram names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. You cannot create a diagram with the same name as an existing diagram in the same design. Text displays red where this is the case. Click OK. A new diagram is created with the specified name. The design is saved. The new diagram is automatically opened. |
Examples
- Where there are multiple diagrams in your design, individual full edit / read-only access for each diagram is unavailable, and is only available for the design. This means that, in such cases: If you have opened one of the diagrams in edit mode: You can open the other diagrams in edit mode.
You cannot open the other diagrams as read-only.
If you have opened one of the diagrams as read-only: You can open the other diagrams as read-only.
If you open another diagram in edit mode, the open read-only diagram also becomes editable.
