Routing Rules Overview

You can specify routing rules to individual cables to define limitations on nodes, segments, zones, and other cables to restrict routes or force cables along a particular route.

Criteria	Behavior
Required or prohibited segments / nodes	The cable may not visit any node or segment identified as “prohibited”.
Cables with hot codes	Where the segment traverses a zone associated with a hot code, the cable type must itself have a hot code value greater than or equal to the hot code value of the zone.
Cables that are grouped	Specifies which cables to bundle together when routed.
Cables that break segregation spacing rules	Specifies the segregation spacing rule between any cables.
Cables that break bend radius rules	The cable type minimum bend radius must be greater than the inner radius of the segment.
Cables that break minimum / maximum length rules	Any cable that breaks the maximum or minimum length defined.

System Administrators can define one or multiple routing rules on each project in the Project Defaults Window in Capital Cable Router Admin. The defined rules are available in the Define Rules and Preferences Dialog Box in Capital Cable Router to specify the routing rules on each cable prior to routing the cable.

Criteria	Behavior
Isolated Cable	Cable cannot be routed with any other cables.
Barred Cable	Cable (A) and then specified cables (B) that must not share any segment in the cable route (including start / end nodes, where defined). You can choose the following values in the Options column when you add the Barred Cable rule: All Tiers — Cables are barred from sharing the same segment even at different tiers. This is the default behavior if the option value is blank. Same Tier — Cables are barred from sharing the same tier on the segment, but can be routed along different tiers of the same segment. Required Node	Cable must be routed through this node.
Prohibited Node	Cable cannot be routed through this node.
Named Segment	Cable must be routed through this segment and any other cables already routed must also have this as a Named Segment.
Required Segment	Cable must be routed through this segment.
Prohibited Segment	Cable cannot be routed through this segment.
Required Zone	Cable must be routed through areas within this zone type and no other areas.
Prohibited Zone	Cable cannot be routed through any of the areas within this zone type.

Note

Certain rules work in tandem with other rules and cables, for example, if you deactivate a Barred Cable rule, the named cable associated with the rule will also be deactivated.
