Building Up a Wiring View of Synthesized Signals or Multicores

After you have generated a visualized wiring view of signals or multicores, you can build on that wiring view by selecting connections to device pins that you want to add. This adds only the wiring connecting to the selected pin, automatically tracing through splices, inline connectors, and slot splices.

After a view of signals and devices has been created using this functionality, you can store and re‑use it later, for example, to re‑validate the same path of connectivity after changes to the wiring have been implemented. Restoring a view includes all changes made to the wiring after the view was stored, while still containing only the wiring connecting to the relevant device pins.

Note

The following examples are available:

  • Usage Example of Building Up a Wiring View

  • Usage Example of Storing a Wiring View

Prerequisites

  • You must have generated a visualized wiring view of at least one signal as a starting point. See Generating a Wiring View of a Synthesized Signal or Multicore.

Video

This video demonstrates how the system preserves the style sets and layout controls when you store and restore a wiring view to ensure that the wiring view is visualized as it was originally created.

Note

This video was recorded in a version before No Filtering, Vehicle Models, Configurations, and Select Options filtering options were added to the visualized wiring view and before the Filter dropdown list was renamed to Signal.

Procedure

Follow the steps for the appropriate action in the table.

If you want to... Do the following:
Add a connection to the visualized wiring view Click the Build action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view. The Build Diagram Dialog Box displays. In the wiring view, select the slot that contains the device for which you want to add a connection. The Build Diagram dialog box informs you from which device it is building and lists the different connections that exist from it. Select the connection that you want to add to the wiring view, and click Build. The action regenerates the wiring view to include the selected connection.
Remove a signal or device from the visualized wiring view Click the Remove Content action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view. The Remove Content Dialog Box lists signals and devices that are included in the wiring view. Select the signals or devices that you want to remove and click Remove. The action removes connectivity for the selected signals and devices. Wires and devices left unconnected by the remove action are also removed automatically.
Store the visualized wiring view Click the Store View action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view. The Store View dialog box displays. Enter the name and description for the view and click Store. The applied style sets, view (Layout / Compact), and the advanced spacing controls settings are saved against the design, and the design name is available in the Restore View dialog box. Note If ever you restore a view, it uses the latest data to generate a fresh visualization of the signal connectivity to the devices you selected when you stored the view. It is not a static image.
Restore or regenerate a visualized wiring view Click the Restore View action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view or click Restore View on the Design browser (Design tab) at the bottom left of the application window. The Restore View dialog box displays. Choose the stored view and click one of the following: Regenerate Regenerates the stored view so that it includes all wiring implementing signals that are included in the stored view. This action looks at the included signals and creates a visualized wiring view that includes everything associated with those signals. Restore Restores the wiring view to include only wiring connecting directly to devices included in the stored view. The wiring view, including the stored style sets, view (Layout / Compact), and the advanced spacing controls settings, is displayed on the Output Window tab. Note Obsolete wiring is not shown for signals when you use the restore action.
Edit the name and details of a stored view Click the Restore View action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view or click Restore View on the Design browser (Design tab) at the bottom left of the application window. The Restore View dialog box displays. Select the stored view and click the Edit icon (). The Edit View dialog box displays. Edit the name and description as required and click OK.
Delete a stored view Click the Restore View action on the Output Window tab for a visualized wiring view or click Restore View on the Design browser (Design tab) at the bottom left of the application window. The Restore View dialog box displays. Select the view and click .
