| Name | A unique label for the multicore (within this design). Type a name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field to select from a list of pre-specified multicore names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. If this field is left blank, the multicore is named according to any default names configured for the project in Capital Project Manager. Optional. |
| Short Description | Automatically displays the Short Description field of the multicore if it is already defined in Capital Project Manager. If no predefined information exists, you can enter and edit the Short Description. This attribute is then made available for use in styling and for search queries. Optional. |
| Multicore Details | The fields in this panel define the characteristics of the multicore to be used. If you associate a Library Part with the multicore, these fields will be populated automatically and read-only. The fields in this panel change depending on whether you select Sheathed or Twisted. |
| Sheathed | Select this option to specify a multicore constructed of a number of inner cores bound by an outer protective sheath. The following options are only applicable to multicores of type Sheathed. |
| In House (Sheathed) | Select this option if you are creating In-House Twisted Sheathed Multicores. Automatically cleared and dimmed if the multicore you are editing contains more than one level of nested multicore. Dimmed if you have not configured any valid OTI Codes to display in the OS Spec dropdown list. Optional. |
| OS Color (Sheathed) | Specifies the color of the outer sheath. Either type a color code into the field, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right and select a code from the Color Code Selection Dialog Box. Dimmed if the In House option is selected. Optional. |
| OS Material (Sheathed) | The material from which the outer sheath is made. Select a material code from the dropdown list. Dimmed if the In House option is selected. Optional. |
| OS Spec (Sheathed) | The specification used to identify the outer sheath type (and therefore the multicore). If the In House option is selected, this dropdown is populated with OTI Insulation Run Codes (for spiral, space, and overlap tapes only) that you have created. See “Object Type Information” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide to create these codes. If the name of any valid OTI Insulation Run Code has more than thirty characters, you cannot select it and the name displays in red text. A tooltip displays further information. Optional. |
| Shielded (Sheathed) | With this option selected, a shield is automatically created and added to the multicore structure. The attributes of the shield can be inspected or edited in the Edit Wires Dialog Box. Shields only exist within the context of a parent multicore and cannot be created or deleted independently. |
| Twisted | Select this option to specify a multicore constructed of a pair of wires twisted together. The following options are only applicable to multicores of type Twisted. |
| In House (Twisted) | Select this option if the multicore is assembled (twisted together and secured) as the harness is being constructed, as opposed to the twisted pair being bought in ready-assembled. With this option selected, the Pitch option is enabled and the Multiplication Factor is dimmed as long as the customer is set up to use pitch tables in Capital Component Manager, otherwise the Multiplication Factor option is enabled and the Pitch is dimmed. Regardless of how the customer is calculating pitch, the Spec and Library Part fields are dimmed (in-house twisted pairs cannot exist in the library). Optional. |
| Pitch (Twisted) | Only available if the In House option is selected, and the customer for this design is configured to use pitch tables. This value is compared with all pitch tables configured in Capital Component Manager to find the table that matches the specified pitch. See also “Creating a Pitch Table” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide. Optional. |
| Multiplication Factor (Twisted) | Only available if the In House option is selected, and the customer for this design is not configured to use pitch tables. Specifies the additional wire length that must be added during engineering calculations to offset the loss of length incurred as a result of the twisting. This ensures that the twisted pair is of sufficient length once constructed. Optional. |
| Spec (Twisted) | Only enabled if the In House option is cleared. Specify an alphanumeric value for bought-in twisted pairs. Tip You can also specify a numeric value for purchased parts but you must select the “Allow numeric OS Spec for non‑In‑House twisted multicores” project preference. Optional. |
| Library Part | Specifies an association with a multicore in the library. Select the required library part number type (Internal, Customer, or Supplier) and click the ellipsis (...) button. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a multicore from the library. To view details for the associated part, click the button. To remove the associated part, click the button. Dimmed if the In House option is selected for a Sheathed multicore. Optional. |
| BOM ID | Specifies a unique identifier to be displayed against the component in the Bill of Materials, the Composite BOM, and in Bill of Material reports generated from Capital E/E Reporter. This attribute is only available when a library part is assigned. Optional. BOM IDs can be automatically prefixed in tables and reports based on project preferences you have configured. |
| Customer Name | Specifies the customer name for the multicore. This can be displayed in the multicore table, or displayed using styling. See “Attribute Decoration” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide to display component attributes. Optional. |
| Harness | Used for mapping Capital Logic Designer objects to Capital Harness Designer harnesses during synchronization. See Specifying the Harness Attribute for an Object in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide. Default is the current harness design name. Enter a new name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to select from a list of pre-specified harness names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. Optional. |
| Included On BOM | Specifies whether the multicore is ignored when generating a bill of materials during engineering calculations (cleared) or included (selected). Also applies to any components associated with this one, see Included On BOM Setting. Optional. |
| Included On Cut Chart | Specifies whether the multicore is ignored when generating a Wire Cutting Chart (cleared) or included (selected). Optional. |
| Length Change Type | Specifies how any Length Change Value is applied to the multicore and its constituent wires. Choose from: Absolute The calculated wire/sheath length is replaced with the value of the Length Change Value field. Neither Any value in the Length Change Value field is ignored. Offset The value in the Length Change Value field is added to the calculated wire / shield length (negative values will be subtracted). Note For wires in an in-house twisted multicore, the Length Change Value is added to the length of each wire in the multicore. |
| Length Change Value | Specifies a value used to override the calculated wire/sheath length. How the value is applied to the calculated wire/sheath length is controlled by the setting of the Length Change Type option. |
| Modified Length | Displays the calculated length of the multicore following engineering calculations. Read-only. |
| Note | This is a free-text field used to record any additional information/instructions required. Optional. |
| Parent | Only applicable when editing an existing multicore (and if this multicore is part of a nested multicore) the field displays the name of the multicore within which this multicore is nested. Read-only. |
| Module | Specifies the modules to which this multicore is assigned. If a multicore is created by the synchronization of data from Capital Logic Designer or Capital Systems Integrator, this field displays the assigned module code, but this can be overwritten. Multiple module codes can be specified by separating them with a forward slash (/). Codes cannot begin or end with a forward slash or a space. Optional. |
| Level | If the current harness design has been synchronized with a Capital Systems Integrator design, this field displays the harness levels in which the multicore exists. See also Synchronizing from a Capital Systems Integrator Design. Read‑only. |
| Option | Specifies the derivatives in which the multicore exists. To create or edit an option expression, click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field and use the Edit Option Expression Dialog Box. Alternatively, you can enter or modify an option expression directly within the field. Optional. |

| Ends Tab | Displays details of the connectors and splices at each end of the multicore, as shown in Figure 525. See also “Multicore End Identification”. Used to configure various attributes that control sheath cut back length and untwisted length calculations (untwisted length values are applicable for both twisted bought in and twisted in-house multicores). Used to configure components specific to each end of the multicore. To augment the default Capital functionality, you can create extensibility plugins to provide, for example, alternative multicore tables which use the End attribute information described on this tab. See “Extensibility Plugins” in the Capital Design Tools Common Functions User Guide to create and use extensibility plugins. Capital Harness Process Designer SBOM Operations can consume this attribute data during SBOM generation. You can configure Capital Work Instruction Publisher Providers to consume and display this attribute data on workbook pages. |
| End A | This panel displays the names of all the connectors/splices/ring terminals/devices connected at End A of the multicore. |
| End B | This panel displays the names of all the connectors/splices/ring terminals/devices connected at End B of the multicore. |
| Attributes | These tables display the attributes that are configured at End A and End B of the multicore. Any changes you make to the attributes are only updated by the system when you run: Wire/Multicore Length calculations from the Automate > Calculate ribbon. or Harness Engineering calculations. |
| Cut Back Change Type | Only applicable to multicores of type Sheathed. Specifies how the system applies any Cut Back Change Value you have configured to the calculated outer sheath length. Choose from: Absolute The Cut Back Change Value overrides the Unmodified Cut Back value. The result is displayed in the Cut Back Value field. Neither Any value in the Cut Back Change Value field is ignored. Offset The system adds the configured Cut Back Change Value to the Unmodified Cut Back value (negative values are subtracted). The result is displayed in the Cut Back Value field. Optional. |
| Cut Back Change Value | Only applicable to multicores of type Sheathed. Specify a value for the system to use to update the Cut Back Value field. The value must be less than the Modified Multicore length (taking into account any Cut Back Change Value you have specified at the other end of the multicore). The value displays red if you exceed the maximum allowed. The Cut Back Change Type setting controls how the value in this field is applied to the Unmodified Cut Back value. Optional. |
| Cut Back Value | Only applicable to multicores of type Sheathed. This field shows the system calculated cut back value, as displayed in the Unmodified Cut Back. If you have configured the Cut Back Change Type and Cut Back Change Value attributes, the result of their modifications to the Unmodified Cut Back is displayed. Read-only. |
| Unmodified Cut Back | Only applicable to multicores of type Sheathed. The system calculates this value by adding the following: The greatest add-on value assigned to a connector(s) at which any of the inner cores terminate at this end of the multicore. to The greatest distance from this end of the multicore to the junction in the multicore where the path of the inner wires diverges (if any). If the Cut Back Change Type is set to Neither, this value also populates the Cut Back Value field. Read-only. |
| Unmodified Untwisted Value | Only applicable to multicores of type Twisted. Where all wires at this end of the multicore terminate in the same connector/splice, this field displays the value configured in the Default Multicore Untwisted Value set in Project Preferences (see also the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide). Where wires at this end of the multicore terminate in different connectors/splices, the system calculates this value as the longest distance (including connector and junction add-ons) from the last common point of the twist, to the end of each wire at this end of the multicore. Read-only. |
| Untwisted Change Type | Only applicable to multicores of type Twisted. Specifies how any Untwisted Change Value is applied to the Unmodified Untwisted Value. Optional. | Components | The tables display any additional components you have added to the relevant multicore end. Click the Edit () button to open the Multicore End Components Dialog Box and configure the required components. |
| Additional Info Tab | Use to specify multicore markers. See Figure 526. |
| Markers | A text label can be defined using three parameters (Color Code, Spacing, and Marker Text) associated to the label’s position on the wire. The parameters are specified automatically using Markers constraints or manually using the following fields: Overridden Clear by default on multicore markers applied by constraints. Select to enable manual entries and change markers applied by marker constraints. If selected, the marker values are not overwritten by marker constraints. Check box is selected by default on imported markers and when child designs are generated during composite breakdown. Optional. Position The location on the multicore length at which the marker is applied. Read-only. The following options are available: End A The marker is applied to the end of the multicore nominated as End A, as defined by the options selected on the Ends tab. End B The marker is applied to the end of the multicore nominated as End B. Middle The marker is applied at the mid-point of the multicore. Spaced Markers are applied along the length of the multicore at intervals dictated by the Spacing value. Color Code Marker color selected from the dropdown list. Put a “/” between color code names to specify multiple colors for the markers. For example “BK/BLU”. Optional. Spacing Interval at which spaced markers are applied for configurations with a Position value of Spaced. Optional. Marker Text Text applied to the multicore. Optional. |
