Auto Create Component

Constraints Overview

You can use constraints to automatically create component types, such as clip, device, grommet, other component, splice, spot tape, breakout tape, wire end components, and multicore end components.

The constraints are available in the Constraint Selection Dialog Box.

The following configuration information is common to all auto create component constraints:

General Behavior

• The execution of these constraints automatically creates components defined by a part number / insulation code, at configured positions on bundles / insulation runs matching a relative query.

• If the bundle / insulation run length is out of the defined min / max range, components are not auto created by the constraint.

• If you have not specified a min / max length value, the constraint attempts to auto create components on all bundles / insulation runs on the diagram.

• If the constraint attempts to auto create a new component at a location where a component with the same part number already exists, the new component is not created. Note This does not apply if the component is spot tape. Multiple instances of spot tape can be created at the same location.

• To help identify auto created components, you can optionally define a property name in the project preference “Auto component creation property name”. The constraint action adds the property (with a value of True) to all auto created objects.

Constraint Order

The order that your constraints display in the Define Rules Dialog Box may not be the order that the process executes them when you use the Place All Components Rules Ribbon Action.

For example, if you have created constraints as in Figure 29, where you want the constraints to auto create clips, and then auto create associated spot tapes.

You must run the individual Automate > Rules > Place Clips ribbon action, followed by the Place Spot Tapes ribbon action, to ensure that the auto create clips constraint is executed before the spot tape constraint.

Interval

Configuration

• If you define an interval value, the process automatically creates components multiple times on the bundle / insulation run in accordance with the interval value.

• If the interval

the target bundle / insulation run length, no components are created.

• If the interval has a zero value, the component is created once.

• If bundle has variant length defined, the process considers the minimum length when calculating positions, and offsets when auto creating components.

Offset

Configuration

• If you define an offset, components are auto created anchored to the configured “from” component. For example, an auto created spot tape placed relatively to a clip is anchored to the clip.

• If the offset is bigger than the target bundle, the process does not create a component.

Combined

Interval and Offset Configuration

• Components are auto created offset from the specified “from” component, the number of components is determined based on bundle length / interval. If the offset > the target bundle, no components are created.

If the interval

the target bundle, no components are created.
