Two Harness Levels into One

You can merge two harness levels into one. You cannot merge abstract levels, child levels, or parent levels.

Note

Combining and merging harness levels are different actions. Combining harness levels creates a new parent level that contains the combined option selections of the combined levels. The combined levels also appear under the combined level. See Manually Combining Harness Levels into One.

Merging harness levels allows you to take the vehicle models, option definitions, take rate, and maximum complexity from one level (possibly a brand new one) and apply those to another (possibly an older, existing level). The action removes the ‘new’ level. You may want to do this in a change management process where you want to re-use an existing level (with an existing part number) by merging a new level (possibly with new options) into it.

Procedure

1. With a Capital Systems Integrator diagram open, press Space Bar and enter Harness Level optimization; the Harness Level Optimization Dialog Box displays. The harnesses in the design are listed in the Harness table.

2. Select the harness for which you want to merge harness levels and click the Define Harness Levels () button; the Harness Levels for: Dialog Box displays. The dialog box lists the harness levels that you have created for the harness.

3. In the Levels table, select the two levels and click the Merge two levels into one () button.Note The first selected level has the vehicle models, option definitions, take rate, and maximum complexity that will be used in the merged harness level. The second selected level has the name, part number, attributes (besides take rate), and properties that will be used in the merged harness level.

A message confirms which level will be updated with the options, vehicle models, and take rate of the other level.

4. If the merge sequence is correct, click Proceed. If it is incorrect, click Reverse so that the other level is updated.

Results

• The action removes the first selected level and deletes wires that were referenced by only that level.

• If there is a wire in the second selected level that is not compatible with the new options, the system deletes that wire from the merged level. If the wire is not referenced in any other level, it is deleted from the design.
