Mixed Modular and
Composite Synthesis Flow
The Composite Wiring Synthesis (CWS) process requires a full set of physical harness levels to run optimally. Such harness levels are not always available. CWS can also be slower when large numbers of configurations are required. Modular Wiring Synthesis (MWS) is faster and does not require harness levels, but does not provide visibility of how physical harness levels are implemented by the wiring. You can use a process which is a mix of the two approaches.
The process is as follows:
Run MWS. See Modular Wiring Synthesis.
Import or create physical harness levels for harnesses. See Creating a Harness Level for a Harness and Importing Harness Level Definitions.
Assign wires from abstract harness levels to physical harness levels based on their option expressions.
This process is faster than using CWS and does not make any changes to the wiring created by MWS. The physical harness levels can then be used for reporting, analysis, and verification (for example, using Design Assistant).
The benefits of this approach include:
Support for a mixed flow where some harnesses are modular and some are composite Sometimes users want to keep the big harnesses (such as, instrument panel and body) as modular harnesses and synchronize those with designs in Capital Harness Designer Modular. For smaller harnesses, the users want to completely define them with harness levels in Capital Systems Integrator.
Support of partial harness level definition Consider a case where you are working on a global platform. For a particular harness you have decided all the harness levels that are to be manufactured for the European market but not the levels for other markets (such as, India and Japan). You can import the European harness levels, assign wiring to them, and pass that data to manufacturing. When you have decided the harness levels for the other markets, you can create or import them, and assign wiring to them too. In other words, you can define sets of harness levels, and allocate wires to them incrementally.
Note
There are two possible approaches to working with bypass wires in this flow. Generating bypass wires using MWS and then assigning them to physical levels is probably the easiest approach, but be aware that MWS can create many bypass wires. However, this is a clean process that supports re-synthesis very well.
Alternatively, use CWS to generate bypass wires after using the Assign Levels action. This is fast and has the benefit that it will generate exactly the right bypass wires. However, when MWS is re-run, these will be deleted, so it is necessary to re-generate them using CWS each time.
