Adding a Modular

	Connector

You can place a modular connector onto a design by associating a parent connector (also known as a modular housing or modular shell) from the library, and selecting the sub‑components (also known as sub‑connectors or modular inserts) to be assigned. There are two methods of adding a modular connector onto a design.

The first method adds a modular connector directly to the diagram from Capital Component Manager, as described in Adding a Device From Capital Component Manager as a Parameterized Device.

Procedure

  1. Press the space bar and enter Plug or Jack, and then select Home > Plug > Add Plug or Home > Jack > Add Jack from the Search Ribbon dropdown list. The cursor changes to or .

  2. Click to place the first corner of the connector.

  3. Move the cursor to position the opposite corner of the connector. A shadow box indicates where the connector will be added and a tooltip displays the width and number of pins that can fit on the connector. Click to place the connector on the diagram.

Note If you use Ctrl+click to place the opposite corner of the connector, pins are added automatically. If you add a plug such that the side that can connect with a device is touching the side of a device, and the device, the plug or both have pins, the plug will be mated with the device, matching pins will be added as required and any conductors previously attached to that device that are covered by the plug are disconnected from the device and connected to the plug, if they can be attached to parallel pins on the plug.

  1. Right-click the newly created connector and select Properties.

  2. Click the Library Part ellipsis button (...). The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a modular connector from the library. The associated modular connector is displayed in the Library Part field.

  3. For aerospace modular connectors, click the Modular Tab (Properties Dialog Box).The tree on the left side of the tab shows every position configured against the modular connector, with an icon () indicating that a position is empty.

  1. To insert a sub-component into an empty position:Select an empty position and then click the Library Part ellipsis button (...). The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed, showing only those optional sub‑components available to the selected position.

Select the required part, and then click Insert.The sub-component name is automatically generated and displayed in the Library Part field and to the right of the connector icon in the tree, with the blocked cavity in parentheses and italics if the insert blocks a cavity. You can override the insert name to describe the hierarchy of each connector. Note If any other positions have become blocked by the assigned sub-component a stop sign is added to the icon in those positions (). It is not possible to assign a sub-component to a blocked position.

  1. Click OK.To view adding a modular connector and its child inserts:
