Straighten Bundle
You can use the Straighten Bundle functionality to re-shape and manipulate bundles when laying out a harness on full and non-full scale diagrams.
Tip
See Bundle Manipulation Overview to use the Manipulation Handles to edit bundle positions and shapes.
This video demonstrates the functionality.
Valid Bundles for Straightening
Any bundle with grip points can be straightened with the following exceptions:
You cannot select an arc as the reference segment to straighten from.
Bundles with loops.
Multi-entry connectors bundles, if not all of its connected bundles are affected.
Bundles without grip points.
A message in the Status Bar displays information if you select an invalid bundle.
Results of Straightening
When you straighten a bundle along one of its selected straight segments:
All arcs are flattened into straight segments of the same length and aligned with the segment selected.
Each straight segment is aligned with the one selected.
All grip points along the chosen direction are removed.
Take out bundle positions are rotated or translated (see Figure 127 and Figure 128).
Invoking the Action
You can use the following methods to invoke bundle straightening:
Note
The actions are unavailable if the harness does not contain a bundle with a grip point.
Right-click the diagram canvas or on a valid bundle and select Straighten Bundle from the menu.
Press Space Bar and enter Straighten Bundle.
Press Shift when making the selections to keep the action active to straighten other valid bundles.
To cancel the action, right-click the canvas and select Cancel or press Esc on the keyboard.
Straightening Direction
When straightening is active, hover the mouse over a valid bundle to display arrows to indicate the direction to apply straightening.
Figure 123: Direction Arrows
If you hover over an internal bundle segment, as in Figure 124, the segment is divided into thirds and arrows display to indicate the direction to straighten. Click a single arrow to straighten only the bundle segments in the direction of the arrow. Click the double arrow to straighten all segments in both directions.
Figure 124: Internal Bundle Segment Selected
If you hover over an end segment adjacent to a node as in Figure 125 and Figure 126, a single arrow is displayed to indicate you can only straighten this segment in the direction of the arrow.

Preview Graphics
When you hover over a valid segment to be straighted, a preview of the straightening effect on the associated take out bundles and nodes is also displayed. The initial preview displays the bundles with their coordinates rotated such that their angle with the straightened bundle is preserved, as in Figure 127.
Note
The preview graphics and direction arrows display in the default Object Selection Color.
Figure 127: Initial Rotated Position
If you press the Ctrl key, the preview changes to display the bundles in a translated view to retain the orientation of take out bundles as in Figure 128. Release the Ctrl key to toggle back to the initial preview.
Note
The preview highlighting remains visible as you move the mouse away from the bundle. Press the Backspace button on your keyboard to remove the preview.
