Adding a Multicore From Capital Component Manager
and Adding Existing Component Conductors
You can add a library multicore to a diagram with existing conductors as its component conductors.
Alternatively, you can add library multicore and add new conductors to it. See Adding a Multicore From Capital Component Manager and Adding New Component Conductors.
Prerequisites
- The multicore to add must already be created using Capital Component Manager. See “Multicore Wire” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.
Procedure
Press the space bar and enter Multicore, and then select Home > Multicore > Add Multicore from the Search Ribbon dropdown list.The Generic Multicore Dialog Box is displayed.
In the Available Conductors list, select the conductors to add to the multicore.
Click the Add From Library button ().
The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed. Two filter criteria are added automatically: a non-editable object type (Group Name) criteria and an editable “No of Innercore Wires” criteria. The value of the second criteria corresponds to the number of conductors you selected in the Available Conductors list.In the search fields at the top of the dialog box, select a part number type from the dropdown list and type the library part number of the multicore you require in the text box. Select the part from the auto-populated list or click the Search parts using criteria specified button () to display a list of parts matching your search criteria, and then select the part in the Parts list.
Click Insert.The library part is added to the Multicores list in the Generic Multicore dialog box with the library part inner cores shown as child nodes of the multicore. Note The newly-created multicore is initially given a temporary name. The multicore is assigned a name according to the default naming rules when you click OK to add it to the diagram. Alternatively, click the Edit button (), and then in Edit Multicore Dialog Box, clear the Default Name check box and enter a name in the Name field.
For each diagram wire or net to include in the multicore:In the Available Conductors list, select the Wire or Net. In the Multicores list, select the library inner core that the conductor is to be associated with.
Click Assign ().
Note You can only add wires and nets from the Available Conductors list to the library part in the Multicores list - you cannot add an existing multicore from the Available Conductors list to the library part in the Multicores list. You cannot add shared conductors to a non-shared multicore or overbraid. A conductor can belong to only one multicore or overbraid at a time. Conductors that have already been added to a multicore or overbraid are not displayed in the Available Conductors list. However, if you create a new multicore it is displayed in the Available Conductors list the next time you access the Generic Multicore or Overbraid dialog box, and if you create a new overbraid, it is displayed in the Available Conductors list the next time you access the Overbraid dialog box.
The library inner core names are replaced with the names of the diagram conductors and associations are created.
- Click OK.
Results
The multicore is added to the Multicores folder in the Design Browser. The conductors added to the new multicore are removed from their original position in the Conductors folders in the Design Browser and are shown as child nodes of the new multicore node.
The multicore or overbraid indicators are attached to the conductors on the diagram.
Note
By default indicators span the space between the conductors in the multicore / overbraid. If the conductors in the multicore / overbraid are too far apart the indicators will be split. You can use the Toggle Indicators action to change whether or not indicators are split. See Toggling Multicore and Overbraid Indicators.
You must add a shield termination to shielded multicores and to overbraids. See Adding a Shield Termination. You can use the Assign Library Multicore Dialog Box to change which inner core in the library part definition is associated with which conductor in the design.
