Design Assistant

Accessed by pressing Space Bar and entering Assistant, or by clicking the Open Design Assistant button on the Design Browser (Design tab). The Design Assistant is displayed as a tab in the Output Window. It groups together a number of design rule checks and other actions within a single interface. This helps you to understand where you are in the design flow. It allows you to run a sub-set of design rule checks on the design.

You can close it by right-clicking on the tab and choosing Remove tab.

Object Description
Switch to Synthesis Analyzer Switches the Design Assistant tab into Synthesis Analyzer mode. See Synthesis Analyzer Mode for details of this concept.
Run the Design Assistant’s checks Runs the design rule checks that you have specified to run in the Design Assistant. Runs the Design Assistant actions that you have toggled to run using Include Design Assistant DRCs, Report inconsistent harness options and None / Active Levels / Persisted Configurations / All Configurations buttons. The results of the actions display in the Design Assistant Output Table. You can specify which design rule checks are run by clicking Configure Checks ().
Save the results to CSV file Saves the content of the Design Assistant Output Table as a comma separated variable (CSV) file. A dialog box displays where you specify the file name and where you want to save it.
Include Design Assistant DRCs Specifies whether to use a simulation of wiring synthesis to calculate the options that impact each harness. The report is generated if this toggle is selected when Run the Design Assistant’s checks is clicked. You can specify which design rule checks are run in the Design Assistant by clicking Configure Checks ().
Report inconsistent harness options Specifies whether to use a simulation of wiring synthesis to calculate the options that impact each harness. The report is generated if this toggle is selected when Run the Design Assistant’s checks is clicked. The simulation reports on any potential synthesis problems or problems with options on harnesses. This does not update the harnesses or create any new objects. A summary of problems is listed in the Design Assistant Output Table and more detailed descriptions display on the Synthesis tab of the Output Window.
None / Active Levels / Persisted Level Configurations / All Level Configurations / Abstract Option Configurations Specifies whether the Signal Route State Calculator that calculates the route state of signals (routed, unrouted, unconnected, and so on) is run or not when Run the Design Assistant’s checks is clicked. It also specifies the scope of the calculations: None The Signal Route State Calculator is not run. Active Levels Runs for only the currently active harness levels. Persisted Configurations Runs for the set of configurations that you can see in the Configuration Setting Browser Window (Configuration tab). These are the maximum complexity configurations generated by Composite Wiring Synthesis. All Configurations Runs for all physical configurations including those that would be created by the Composite Wiring Synthesis option for generating full configurations. These configurations are generated only temporarily and your data is not changed in any way. Abstract Option Configurations Runs for all of the temporary configurations built by Modular Wiring Synthesis to generate abstract wiring. The system creates these by finding all the options for each vehicle model, and creating temporary configurations for all the combinations of active options. The system generates names for these temporary configurations using the vehicle model name and an index number (for example, LHD_0, LHD_1, and so on). The results display in the Design Assistant Output Table. This toggle is used in conjunction with Entire Design / Selected Signals.
Entire Design / Selected Signals Sets the scope of the Signal Route State Calculator to objects from the entire design or objects only carrying the signals currently selected in the Design Browser (Design tab). This toggle is used in conjunction with None / Active Levels / Persisted Configurations / All Configurations.
Configure Checks Opens the Project Preferences dialog box where you specify which design rule checks are run by the Design Assistant.
Design Assistant Output Table Displays the output of the actions performed by the Design Assistant when Run the Design Assistant’s checks is clicked. The table includes columns in which you can filter the contents by selecting an item from the drop-down list at the top. You can clear it by right-clicking on the tab and choosing Clear. You can also filter some columns by typing a string into the box in the column header. This allows you to filter on partial words, and so on. You can sort the contents of a column by clicking the column header. The columns are listed below this row.
Severity Whether the result is an error (), a warning () or an information message ().
Message Detailed message about what a design rule check, the Signal Route State Calculator, or the Harness Option report has identified. You can click an object in the message to jump to that object in the diagram window and select it in the Design Browser (Design tab) at the bottom left of the application. Note If you switch into Synthesis Analyzer mode to investigate an unrouted or partially routed signal, these messages are retained when you switch back to Design Assistant mode. When you jump to an object, the Design Browser Tree displayed on a tab at the bottom left of the application also expands to display and highlight that object. See “Design Browser Tree Expansion Limitations” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide for limitations with regards to the expansion and highlighting of the Design Browser Tree.
Category Displays Design Assistant to indicate that the row relates to a design rule check. Depending on the Design Assistant functionality that has run, this displays: Design Assistant if the row relates to a design rule check Pre-synthesis if the row relates to the Harness Option report Signal Route State if the row relates to the Signal Route State Calculator
Check The specific design rule check or Design Assistant functionality that has identified something in the design. If it relates to the Signal Route State Calculator, it displays the routed state of the signals (see Routed States of Signals for a description of what each state means).
Design /Build List The design or build list in which the functionality has identified something.
Object The specific object for which the functionality has identified something.
Object Description
Switch to Design Assistant Switches the Design Assistant tab to Design Assistant mode. See the table above for details of that mode. If you ran Design Assistant checks before switching to Synthesis Analyzer mode, the tab remembers the Design Assistant messages when you switch back.
Analyze the selected signal Enabled when you select a signal or wire(s) belonging to a signal in the Design Browser (Design tab). This runs synthesis analysis for the signal. See Switching to Synthesis Analyzer Mode for a Signal.
Persisted Level Configurations / All Level Configurations / Abstract Option Configurations Select the configurations in which you want to analyze the signal. Persisted Level Configurations The set of physical configurations that you can see in the Configuration Setting Browser Window (Configuration tab) on the lower left of the application. These are the maximum complexity configurations generated by Composite Wiring Synthesis. All Level Configurations All physical configurations including those that would be created by the Composite Wiring Synthesis option for generating full configurations. These configurations are generated only temporarily and your data is not changed in any way. Abstract Option Configurations All of the temporary configurations built by Modular Wiring Synthesis to generate abstract wiring. The system creates these by finding all the options for each vehicle model, and creating temporary configurations for all the combinations of active options. The system generates names for these temporary configurations using the vehicle model name and an index number (for example, LHD_0, LHD_1, and so on).
Toggle highlighting of the signal being analyzed Controls whether the signal being analyzed is highlighted in the diagram or not. When you turn the highlighting off, the system also deselects the signal in the Design Browser (Design tab). If you turn the highlighting back on, the system does not re-select the signal in the Design Browser.
Toggle visibility of the junction boxes usable by the signal Controls whether junction boxes (and paths to them) are hidden or displayed in the diagram. You can have splices within junction boxes, which means they can be possible targets for many signals. While that can be useful, often users know they are not going to put splices inside junction boxes (either for one signal or all signals) so do not need to see those paths while investigating a signal. Hiding them reduces the complexity of the diagram.
Toggle visibility of the spur bundles usable by the signal Controls whether spur bundles are visible on the diagram or not. A spur bundle is a bundle off the main signal route where the system might position a splice for the signal if splice constraints make it necessary.
Unrouted Configurations dropdown This dropdown list shows the configurations in which the currently selected signal is not fully routed. Select the configuration that you want to view in the diagram window. Your “Persisted Level Configurations / All Level Configurations / Abstract Option Configurations” selection controls what type of configurations are listed. If you hold the mouse cursor over a configuration name in this dropdown, a tooltip displays further information: For an abstract configuration, it displays the options that are unrouted for the signal in this configuration. You can use this information to identify where a bundle is excluded from a configuration due to its option expression. For a physical configuration (from persisted level configurations or all level configurations), it displays the variant options in the configuration.
Sets the opacity of excluded bundles Displayed only in Synthesis Analyzer mode. When you view the available paths for a signal in a diagram in Synthesis Analyzer mode, graphics are dimmed where bundles are excluded by constraints or options. This controls how dim those graphics display.
Signal name The name of the signal being analyzed. Note If the signal contains wiring that is constrained by prototype wiring, the icon displays alongside the signal name. See Prototype Wiring for more information about this concept.
