Creating a Shared

Splice Based on a Symbol

You can create a shared splice based on a splice symbol directly (without the need to create and promote a non-shared splice). You can also add a splice symbol to the shared object definition of an existing shared splice.

Prerequisites

  • The symbol must exist in the symbol library. See “Creating a New Symbol” in the Capital Symbol Designer User Guide.

Procedure

  1. Select the symbol in the Symbol Browser. Right-click in the Symbol Browser and select Create Shared Splice.The Create Shared Splice Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. Select Create New. Specify a name and revision for the object.Note If you select Share Into you can update the properties and attributes of an existing shared splice using the properties and attributes on the symbol. If the symbol has any property or attribute values that conflict with the values on the shared splice, the Resolve Conflicting Attributes and Properties Dialog Box is displayed.

  3. Click OK.

Results

  • The shared object is created and is added to the Shared Objects Browser.

  • Now that you have created the shared object definition for the shared object you can add instances of it to designs. See Adding an Instance of a Shared Device or Connector as a Parameterized Object or Adding an Instance of a Shared Device as a Symbol.

  • Now that you have created the shared object definition for the shared splice you can add instances of the shared splice to designs. Adding an Instance of a Shared Splice.

Note

In Capital Logic Designer, you cannot add a pin to a (shared or non-shared) splice. You can create multi-pin splices in Capital Component Manager based on a symbol, and create multi-pin shared splices based on a symbol (with or without a library part association) in Capital Project Manager. See “Splices” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide or “Shared Splice” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.

You cannot add a symbol to a shared splice that was created without a symbol. Pins on shared splices are always unrestricted. When you add a new instance of a shared splice, all the pins in the shared object definition are added to the new instance. When you create more than one instance of a shared object, cross‑references are displayed next to the instances on the diagrams. See Cross-References on Objects or Pins.
