Placing Fixtures Automatically

You can select and place fixtures on a diagram automatically. This is achieved using rules and constraints scoped to bundle or component related fixtures.

Restrictions and Limitations

• If you run automatic fixture placement with individual bundles or components selected, the rules are applied only on the selected objects. Otherwise, fixtures are placed on all valid objects on the diagram.

Prerequisites

• Valid fixture rules and constraints applicable to the design are defined in the Fixture Constraint Dialog Box.

• A full scale diagram is open.

• Valid fixture symbols are available.

Procedure

Select Rules > Place Fixtures from the Automate ribbon. Alternatively, Press Space Bar and enter Place Fixtures.

Results

• Fixtures with part numbers are automatically placed on the diagram according to the defined rules and constraints. Mandatory additional components defined in the fixture housing definition are selected.

• Fixtures appear in the relevant Fixtures Folder in the Harness Design Browser.

• If a fixture already exists at the target location, for example from a previous run of automatic fixture placement, a new fixture is not created. This is the case even if it has a different specification (part number, attributes, or symbol) to the one existing at the target location. You can run Update Fixture Part Numbers and use the Fixture Part Number Validity design rule check (see the Design Rule Checks Applicable to Capital Harness Designer and Capital Harness Designer Modular Designs topic) to ensure the correct fixture part numbers are selected.

• Bundle fixtures with associated symbols, such as clip holder symbols, are automatically placed by the process at a location based on a combination of: Any offsets you have defined between the symbol graphic and the symbol origin insertion point, as shown in Figure 322. Any Nominal Origin offsets you have defined for the symbol decoration in Capital Styling.

Bundle Width extents (including full scale width bundles and non-full scale width bundles).
