Adding a

	Shield Termination

A shield termination is a special type of wire that is used to make a connection between a cable shield and a suitable termination point. You can add shield terminations to (shielded) multicores and to overbraids.

Note

You can add daisy chains to indicate that multiple shields terminate at one shield termination. See Daisy-chaining Shield Indicators.

You can attach a non-shield wire and create a zero-length shield termination automatically. See Attaching a Wire to a Multicore or Overbraid Shield.

Procedure

Press the space bar and enter Shield.The cursor changes to .
Click the pin or indicator hookup to place the first end of the shield termination.Note Indicator hookups are not displayed for multicores that have been promoted to be a shared object and do not have any other multicores in their inner cores. To add a shield termination to a multicore, you must add the shield termination to the shared object definition in Capital Project Manager. See Promoting a Multicore or

Overbraid.

Define sections of the shield termination by clicking where you want each section to end.
To place the end point of the shield termination, double-click, or click and then right‑click and select Commit.When placing a shield termination, if you hover over a pin on a device, connector, or a multicore / overbraid indicator hookup, a circle is displayed around the pin / hookup to indicate that the shield termination will connect to it. When you connect a conductor to a pin, the diamond around the pin disappears indicating that the conductor is connected.

To add a shield termination to a multicore that was promoted to be shared, the shield termination must already be defined in the shared object definition of the multicore in Capital Project Manager. Once it has been defined, you can use this procedure to add it to the diagram in Capital Logic Designer. The shield termination will be assigned the name that you gave it in Capital Project Manager. See “Edit Shared Multicore Dialog Box” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide to add a conductor to a shared multicore in Capital Project Manager. If indicator hookups are not displayed for a shared multicore, it indicates that the shared object definition of the multicore in Capital Project Manager does not have a shield termination defined. Once you have added a shield termination in Capital Project Manager, press Spare Bar and enter Refresh Shared Objects in Capital Logic Designer, and the indicator hookups will be displayed. Tip To limit the shield termination to only horizontal and vertical sections, use Orthogonal Routing. See Using Orthogonal Routing. If you are using Auto-route Net, you only need to place the start and the end points of the shield termination and the intermediate sections are created automatically. See Auto-Routing of Nets.

Results

The shield termination is added to the diagram and the Design Browser. In the Design Browser the shield termination is shown as a child node of the multicore or overbraid.
