Converting a Reference Instance of a Pin to a Non-Reference Instance

You can convert a reference instance of a pin to a non-reference instance.

Video

This video demonstrates how to convert a reference instance of a pin to a non-reference instance:

Procedure

Select the pin:

  • Press the space bar and enter Make Non-Reference Pin.

  • Right-click and select Make Non-Reference Pin.

Note

If the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is selected, you cannot convert a reference instance of a pin to a non-reference instance if a non‑reference instance of the pin already exists, as doing so would create a duplicate pin. See Preventing Pin Duplication Within a Design.

Results

  • The pin instance is converted to a non-reference instance of the pin.

  • The red arrow is removed from the pin’s icon in the Design Browser (see Icons in Browsers) and the pin’s representation on the diagram changes from a cross () to a diamond ().

Note

Different cross-reference rules apply to reference and non-reference instances of pins. See Cross-Reference Rules for Pins.
