Creating a Mutually-Exclusive Variant Group

You can create a mutually-exclusive variant group in standard Capital functionality. The group carries through to a pro product plan. You can use groups of these variants to identify mechanical differences within harness families. The key attribute of this ‘group of vehicle model groups’ (called Mutually-Exclusive Variant Groups) is that the groups within the group are mutually-exclusive.

Prerequisites

  • This flow assumes you are working in Capital Systems Integrator and you must have the project open.

Note

You can also access the Options dialog box in Capital Project Manager to create this group either at system level or project level. See “Option” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.

Procedure

  1. In Capital Systems Integrator, press Space Bar, enter Options, and select the Capital > Data > Options ribbon action. The Options Dialog Box displays.

  2. Create an option folder for the variant group by clicking Create a New Folder () above the Options Browser.A new folder displays in the browser.

  3. Edit the name of the folder in the Name field. If your mutually-exclusive variant group is to contain the variants LHD and RHD, you could name it LHD_RHD.

  4. Select the Mutually Exclusive box for the folder. This indicates that the options in this folder are mutually-exclusive.

  5. Add the mutually-exclusive variant options to the folder: If you want to...

Do the following:

Add an existing variant option to the folder

Select it in the Options Browser and drag it below the option folder.

Add a new variant option to the folder

With the folder selected in the Options Browser, click Create a new Option (); a new option displays below the folder.

Edit the name of the option in the Name field. Using the LHD and RHD example, this could be LHD or RHD.

Select the Variant box to indicate that this is a variant option.

  1. For each variant option in the folder, specify that it cannot be used with the other variant options:Select the first variant option in the folder and click above the Exclusive window; a Choose Options dialog box displays. In the Available window, select the other variant options from the folder, and click Add; they move to the Selected window. Click OK; the Choose Options dialog box closes and the selected variant options appear in the Exclusive window.Note The list in the Exclusive window updates automatically for all of the variant options that you selected.

  2. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

Results

The mutually-exclusive variant group will now display in the Variant Groups window of the Exclusive Variant Groups Editor Dialog Box. From here you can specify which vehicle models are included in each variant. See Editing the Vehicle Models in a Variant.
