Full Scale Diagrams

You can create diagrams as full scale, or non-full scale representations of the harness.

  • Full Scale When a diagram is created to full scale, the Physical and Grid space scales are locked together, meaning that each bundle is drawn and printed as a true representation of the length it represents. For example, a 100-mm bundle can only be drawn 100 mm long, as dictated by the Physical Scale of the diagram. As this is locked to the Grid Space scale, this ensures that the bundle will also print out 100 mm in length. The one exception to this is the use of a bundle length override to represent, for example, a bundle that has to be manufactured at an angle to the plane of the diagram. The option to render bundle widths at full scale is also available when working within a full scale diagram. The width of the bundles—as determined during engineering calculations—are displayed, but the additional width resulting from the application of insulation layers is not. Full scale diagrams are typically used to produce formboards onto which the physical harness can be placed during manufacture.

  • Non-Full Scale When you create a non-full scale diagram, the sheet size is configurable both in real-world measurements and printed dimensions. This means that the length of the bundle—as it is represented on the diagram—is independent of the real-world length of the bundle. For example, a 100-mm bundle can be drawn longer than a 200-mm bundle. Non-full scale diagrams are typically used when laying out the harness because they are simpler to navigate than full scale diagrams.

If you create a full scale diagram using a non-full scale diagram, such as a Reference diagram, the following behaviors apply:

  • You can configure if bundles are drawn to full scale or non-full scale.

  • If the reference diagram contains unconnected nodes / bundles, any unconnected harness sections are drawn using a temporary datum node. The datum node defined for the reference diagram is used as the datum in the full scale diagram.

  • Waypoints (grip points) and curves are not drawn. Instead, the bundle is straightened along the same angle as the nearest segment to the datum node.

  • Reference nodes are positioned based on the offset to their Anchor Node.

  • If any loops in the bundle configuration cannot be drawn as Loop Bundles, the creation of the diagram is stopped, and you are prompted to rectify the problem before creating the diagram again. Note The option to create full scale diagrams is a licensed operation. If you do not have the required license, this option is unavailable.
