Associated Bundles Overview

You can use the Associate Bundles action to select multiple bundles to include in a single insulation run. The bundles that are added to the existing “main insulation” run are defined as the “Associated bundles”.

You can design bundle layouts with Associated bundles where the following insulation protection is required:

• Bundles that run completely through an insulation run.

• Bundles that end inside the insulation.

• Bundles that are shielded by folded segments of insulation.

Associated bundles can be any length (longer, shorter, or equal to the length of the insulation run). You can use the “Insulation run associated bundle validity” Design Rule Check (DRC), to identify bundles that end inside the insulation.

If required, you can resize the main insulation graphic over the Associated bundles to graphically represent the relationship with the insulation on the diagram. See Resizing an Insulation Layer on a Diagram.

Note

The physical amount of additional insulation required to cover the Associated bundle is not considered when the insulation totals are calculated during Harness Engineering.

Data Exchange

The relationship between the main insulation and any Associated bundles can be exported and displayed in different diagrams, applications, and systems.

If you export a design, the following Associated bundle information is exported:

• Name of the main insulation.

• Names of the Associated bundles.

• Relationship between the main insulation and the bundles.

If you import a design:

• The design is updated with the Associated bundle information.

• The Associated bundle is displayed on the diagram.

Styling

You can apply Query Results to the Insulation Run style set to use a different line style for main insulation graphics that include Associated bundles. If you add a bundle to the main insulation, the insulation graphics change using the assigned Styling Options.

Note

The insulation graphic does not need to be resized over the Associated bundles to change the line style.

You can style the Insulation table displayed on the diagram to include a column to list the bundles associated to the insulation. See also “Using Table Styles” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide.

Harness

Design Browser

If you create an Associated bundle, the bundle name and icon are added under the main insulation icon in the Insulations folder in the Harness Design browser.

The insulation icon changes to () when a bundle is associated to an insulation run, to identify that the insulation contains multiple bundles.

From the Design browser, you can cross-highlight the insulation and the Associated bundles with the graphics on the diagram.

If you remove an Associated bundle from the main insulation, the bundle name and icon in the Insulations folder are removed. See Using Associated Bundles.

The insulation icon reverts to () when all the Associated bundles are removed from the main insulation.

Note

If you create a new harness diagram, any existing Associated bundles are created automatically, and are available in the Design browser and on the diagram.

Comparing

Associated Bundles in Designs and Diagrams

You can use the To Do and Comparing Designs functionalities to report differences between Associated bundles in designs and diagrams, and Engineering Change Orders to track and re‑create changes to Associated bundles across designs.
