Automatic Generation of Conductors
When placing an ICD, placing an ICD pin, or updating ICDs, you can automatically generate conductors based on the signals defined in the ICD, even if the signals have no connected endpoints.
Prerequisites
- The project preference “Generate conductors on ICD pins” must be selected in order for this functionality to be available. See “Project Preferences
for Capital Device Modeler” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
- The ICD must have signals defined.
Generating Conductors When Placing an ICD or ICD
Pin
When placing an ICD, or placing an ICD pin, the Place ICD or Place Pins dialog box is displayed.

To automatically generate conductors, based on the defined signals, during placement, select the option With Conductor.
Generating Conductors When Updating from ICDs
When you select either Update From ICD or Update Devices from ICDs, a dialog box is displayed where you can choose to create or skip creating conductors. There is an option to remember your selection, and if you select this, you will not be prompted again. Closing the dialog box also skips the creation of conductors.

Results
Single-ended conductors are automatically generated for the defined signals, and connected to the pins. The default length of the conductor on the diagram is eight grid points. Figure 65: The ICD Automatically Generated Single-Ended Conductors
Generated conductors are organized into multicore structures according to the cable definition of the ICD device.
If matching shared ICD conductors exist in the project, these are re-used where possible, to ensure signal consistency throughout the project.
The results are reported in the output window.
