Introduction

You can use the Capital Formboard Manager functionality to create Merged Formboard Designs, Combined Formboard Designs, and mixtures of both.

Merged

Formboards

You can select multiple different (but very similar) full scale harness designs and use the Capital Formboard Manager functionality to merge them into a new single merged full scale formboard harness. See Merged Formboards.

By using such merged formboards, you can optimize factory space and available resources. Figure 333 shows a typical final assembly scenario with two harnesses being built on two separate formboards.

If you have a merged full scale design, you can assemble both harnesses on the same merged formboard and free up assembly space and resources for other harnesses as shown in Figure 334.

Combined

Formboard

Use the Capital Formboard Manager functionality to select multiple different full scale harness designs and individually add them to a new single combined full scale design. See Combined Formboards.

Mixed

You can also create a single formboard that is made up of a mixture of multiple merged and combined designs. See Mixed Merged and Combined Formboards.

Terminology

  • Merged Formboard Design A formboard design that is a merger of two or more different, but similar, full scale harness designs. Used by harness manufacturers to build single formboards for different but very similar harnesses.

  • Combined Formboard Design A formboard design containing two or more full scale harness designs. Used by harness manufacturers to build multiple harnesses on the same formboard.

  • Member Designs / Source Designs The designs that you have chosen to merge/combine into a single merged/combined formboard design.

  • Merge The process “merges” objects that are equal (see the Equal Similar or Different topic) on both member designs onto your merged design. Such objects are represented by one single (merged) object on the merged design. This is typically used in cases where the same fixture (fixture position) can be used.

  • Place The process “places” objects that are present on just one of your member designs, onto the merged design (there is no other object to merge this object with), for example, an optional connector, which is contained on just one of the member designs. This connector with its bundle will be placed on the merged Formboard. This is typically used in cases where a separate fixture is required. You can also place an object instead of merging it. For example, where a connector with its bundle is in multiple member designs and you want each to be shown separately. In such a case you can place each instance of the connector and bundle if required.

  • Duplicate If the same object is in both member designs, but there are significant differences between the single instances, the process “duplicates” it onto the merged design. In such cases a merge is not possible. For example, a connector is part of all source designs, and the same fixture can be used, but the pin-out is different.
