Creating a Functional

Message in a Design

You can add a functional message in a design. This is an alternative to adding individual signals.

Procedure

1. Press Space Bar and enter Add Message. Choose the Home > Message > Add Message ribbon action. Alternatively, press M on your keyboard.

2. Click on the location in the design where you want the message to start and use the mouse to move the line.You can define segments in the message by clicking once to place a segment end-point and then continuing to drag the line. Note By default, Auto Routing is enabled in the application. Auto Routing means that the Route Selected action is performed automatically on a message when it is created between two points (ports or empty space) without clicking to create segments between those two points. See Routing Messages.

3. To place the end-point of the message, double-click on the location where you want the message to end. Alternatively, left-click once with the mouse on the location and then right-click to display a pop-up menu and select Commit.A circle is displayed around a port when you drag the end-point of a signal over it. This indicates that placing the signal there creates connectivity. After you place the end-point, the diamond around the port disappears. This indicates that the signal is connected. You can connect more than one message to a port.

Results

• The line changes color and the message is added to the list in the Design Browser Window at the bottom left of the application.

• If no port existed where you start or end a message on a function, the system creates a port automatically.

• You now need to map this functional message to a network message from Capital Signal Modeler. See Mapping a Functional Message to a Network Message.
