Assigning a Library Part

to a Backshell

You can assign a library part to an existing backshell.

To assign a library part to a backshell, follow the procedure described in “Assigning a New Library Part to an Object” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide, noting the following considerations:

• If the existing backshell already has a symbol assigned to it, a filter for that symbol will be added when you access the Part Selection Dialog Box. This filter is optional and can be removed by selecting it and clicking Remove restriction(s) ().

• When you assign a library part that has an associated symbol to a backshell that does not have an associated symbol, the default symbol in the library part will be added to the backshell and will be shown on each backshell termination on every instance of the connector on the current diagram.

• When you assign a library part that does not have an associated symbol to a backshell that does have an associated symbol, the symbol will remain associated with the backshell.

• When you assign a library part that has an associated symbol to a backshell that already has an associated symbol: If the currently-associated symbol is associated with the library part (as the default symbol, or not) it will remain associated with the backshell, and therefore the symbols shown on the backshell’s terminations on the diagram will not change.

If the currently-associated symbol is not associated with the library part, the default symbol in the library part will be associated with the backshell and will be shown on each backshell termination on every instance of the connector on the current diagram.

• Assigning a library part to a backshell causes a symbol to be associated with a backshell, or causes a backshell’s symbol association to be changed to a different symbol, the new symbol will be shown on each backshell termination on every instance of the connector on the current diagram. However, backshell terminations on instances of the connector on other diagrams will not be updated. You can update the symbol on those backshells by Performing a Batch Update of Library Parts on those diagrams. If you do not update symbols on other diagrams, when you run Design Rule Checks, the “Invalid Library Symbol” DRC will identify that some instances of the backshell have symbols that do not match the library part. Note If you assign a library part that has an associated symbol to a backshell, when you access the Backshell dialog box, only the symbols associated with the library part are displayed in the Symbol tree.
