Deleting Abstract Harness Levels

You can delete the abstract harness levels for selected harnesses or all harnesses in a design. You may want to do this when all physical harness levels are defined, and wiring still exists in abstract harness levels.

Caution

Deleting abstract harness levels is not recommended in most synthesis flows. Any wires which have been synthesized, but not yet allocated to physical harness levels will be deleted.

Procedure

  1. Decide whether you want to delete abstract harness levels for all harnesses or selected harness. If you want to...

Do the following:

Delete abstract harness levels for all harnesses that have one or more physical harness levels.

Ensure no harnesses are selected in the Diagram Browser (Design tab) or Diagram Window. Note The action will not delete abstract harness levels for harnesses without a physical harness level.

Delete abstract harness levels for selected harnesses.

Select the harnesses in the Diagram Browser (Design tab) or Diagram Window.

  1. On the Automate ribbon tab, click the Delete Abstract Levels action. Note The action is unavailable if: No harness has both abstract and physical harness levels. No selected harness has both abstract and physical harness levels.

A Delete Abstract Levels window displays a warning that the action may delete wiring.

  1. Click the Delete levels/wiring button to proceed.

Results

  • The action deletes the abstract harness levels.

  • The action deletes any wiring that existed only on those abstract harness levels. That is, wiring that was not associated to any physical harness levels.

  • When you are in multi-user mode, the Output Window reports if any harnesses are not locked and could not be modified.
