Searching Components and Objects in the Project

You can search for components and objects associated with projects using the search criteria in the Search pane.

The following workflows contain the electrical component and network object tabs:

Restrictions and Limitations

  • The search criteria, excluding the descriptions and remarks fields, are case‑sensitive and will not return a matching result if any of the characters are a different case.

  • The search criteria entered in the following object ID fields is automatically converted to uppercase and will only return results of the same case.

Caution To ensure that your results are accurate, be aware that design data authored with IDs using different cases might create objects with duplicate IDs.

Prerequisites

  • Click the Project dropdown list and choose a project.

Procedure

  1. From the Navigation pane, choose the Cables and Devices, or Networks workflow.

  2. Choose the tab for the component or object type you want to search for:Cables

  1. Choose options and type in the active fields to configure the search criteria.

  2. (Optional) Click the Lock Status dropdown list and choose the required option to find design objects (excluding devices) that are locked or available to edit:Unlocked — Displays objects that are not locked by anyone.

Locked by Me — Displays objects for which you have obtained an exclusive lock.

Locked by Others — Displays objects that other users have locked and are unavailable for you to edit.

  1. Click Search.The results are listed in the Search pane. The first result is selected by default and the design and routing information is displayed in the Details pane. Cable results include a selection check box to submit one or multiple cables for auto-routing. See also Automatic Cable Routing.

  2. (Optional) Use the following sort and filter options to customize the loaded set of values: Choose a parameter to sort the list by.

Type to dynamically filter the list by the text included in the ID of the component or object.

Click to sort the list alphanumerically in ascending or descending order.
