Usage Example - Managing Blanking Plug Using Technical Assignation
This usage example describes a scenario where plugged connectors are required within a design for which a number of possible different module combinations can apply. When following this suggested use case, first ask the question; Are there plugged connectors on my design? If the answer is yes, do the following:
A three cavity connector is offered with three different module combinations:
Module A has a wire that fits into Cavity 1. Cavity 2 requires a blanking plug, while Cavity 3 always contains a blanking plug.
Module B contains a cavity plug in Cav 1, the wire is inserted in Cav 2 and again a blanking plug in Cav 3.
Module C has wires in both Cavs 1 and 2, plus a blanking plug in Cav 3.
To correctly manage the assignation of the blanking plugs, the recommended use case is as follows:
- In the Module Code Assignation Configuration, select only Connectors in the Object column, and only Technical Assignation to be run. See Module Code Assignation. This enables the system to create the correct technical module codes resulting correctly plugged connectors in their respective technical modules. If there is a combination of modules requiring differing combinations of blanking plugs, technical assignation will fire, and suitably plugged connectors are created. Once all plugged connectors have been assigned, or if there are no module combinations, standard or mandatory assignation can be run.
In essence, the first pass must be technical assignation, with the second pass being mandatory or standard. You must not rerun mandatory or standard assignation on your combinations as this will override the technical assignation, resulting in potentially conflicting results.
Tip
It is possible to quickly identify connectors that require blanking plugs by using the connector attribute Plugs Required set to true. You can then run Technical Assignation just for these connectors.
