Placing Pins on

an Instance of a Shared Object

You can place pins that already exist in the shared object definition of a shared device, plug, jack, or inline, but have not yet been placed on an instance of the shared object, onto an instance of the shared object. You can also place unplaced pins, unrestricted pins, reference instances of pins, and if the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is cleared, duplicate instances of pins placed on instances of the shared object in the same design.

In designs in the active build list, you can also place duplicate instances of pins placed on instances of the shared object in designs outside the active build list.

Prerequisites

You have added a device, plug, jack, or inline to a diagram and promoted it to be shared.
The pins to place on the object already exist in the shared object definition of the shared object. See Editing a Shared Pin List to add pins to the shared object definition of a shared object that does not have a library part. In Capital Logic Designer you cannot add new pins to the shared object definition of a shared object that has a library part associated with it. You can only edit Library Part definitions in Capital Component Manager.

Procedure

Select the object:Press the space bar and enter Add Pin.

Right-click and select Add Pin.

Press P.

The Place Pins Dialog Box [Shared Objects] is displayed. Note If you share an object that has no pins, the Add Pin action is unavailable until you add a pin to the shared object definition of the object. The Add Pin action may be unavailable because of a domain restriction on the associated shared object definition. If you require access to this action on an object, contact your system administrator. See also “Domains” in the Capital Access Manager User Guide for access restrictions because of Domain settings.

In the Select Pins table, select the pins to place on the object. To select multiple pins, press Ctrl and select. If you choose to place pins individually on the diagram, they will display in the order selected in the table.
Choose to place pins Individually, As Group, or As Stack and whether to place them As Reference, and then click OK.Tip See Reference Pins for a description of reference pins.

The cursor changes to . Circles indicate locations on the object where you can place the pins, and dotted gray lines / boxes indicate locations outside the object where you can place the pins.

If you are placing pins individually, hover over the location to place a pin. If you are placing pins as a group, hover over the location to place the first pin of the group. If you are placing pins as a stack, hover over the location to place the stack.The cursor changes to .
Click to place the pins.
If you are placing multiple pins individually, repeat Steps 4 and 5.

Results

The pins are placed on the device. The object stretches to include any pins placed outside its boundaries.
