Merge Into Dialog Box

To access: Select a non-shared object and press the space bar and enter Merge, or right‑click a non‑shared object and select Merge Into.

Used to select the target object into which the source object will be merged.

Objects

Field	Description
Select tab
Filter	Filters the object names displayed in the list. Enter a series of characters. Only objects with names containing that series of characters are displayed.
Device Name, Plug Name, Receptacle Name, Inline Name, Ring Terminal Name, Wire Name, Net Name, Highway Name	Lists all the objects of the same type as the source object that are placed on diagrams in the design revision. Objects that cannot be merged into are dimmed. A tooltip message explaining why a dimmed object cannot be merged into is displayed if you hover over such an object in the list. Select the target object into which the source object is to be merged and click OK. You cannot merge an object into a shared object. To make a non-shared device, plug, jack, inline, ring terminal or splice an instance of an existing shared object, use the Share Into action. See Promoting a Device or Connector or Promoting a Splice. If the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is selected objects where the merging into would create duplicate instances of pins cannot be merged into. The Merge Into action is not permitted to break library part associations so it is not possible to: Merge objects with different library parts Merge objects where merging would result in an object having more pins than its library part definition or would result in an object having a pin that does not exist in its library part definition. For example, you can only merge an object with a pin named AUDIO_LEFT into an object with a library part if the AUDIO_LEFT pin exists in the library part definition and is currently not placed on an instance of the object. You cannot merge two devices that have mated connectors. If the mated connectors can be merged, merge them first and then merge the devices.
Resolve tab
Target object tree	The target object currently selected in the Select tab. If conflicts also exist on pins or sub-components such as device connectors or backshells, they are listed in a tree as child nodes of the object. Click the shared object, or one of its pins or sub-components, to populate the Attributes and Properties lists.
Attributes	Not displayed when multiple items are selected in the target objects tree. Lists the attributes that conflict: Name The name of the attribute. Source The value of the attribute on the object being merged into another object. Target The value of the attribute on the object currently selected in the Select tab. Result The currently selected value. Initially populated with the Target value. Click to toggle between the Source value and the Target value.
Properties	Not displayed when multiple items are selected in the target objects tree. Lists the properties that conflict: Name The name of the property. Source The value of the property on the object being merged into another object. Target The value of the property on the object currently selected in the Select tab. Result The currently selected value. Initially populated with the Target value. Click to toggle between the Source value and the Target value.
Choose Results From	Source Click to change all the values in the Result columns of all nodes selected in the target object tree to the values on the object being merged into another object. Target Click to change all the values in the Result columns of all nodes selected in the target object tree to the values on the object currently selected in the Select tab. Tip To select multiple nodes in the target object tree, press Ctrl or Shift when selecting nodes. To select all nodes in the tree, select one node, and then press Ctrl+A. With multiple nodes selected in the target object tree the Attributes list and Properties list are not displayed. However, attribute and property values in the Result columns of those lists do still get changed when you click the Source or Target buttons.
