DRC Symbol Graphics Selection
The “Validate node component graphics layering” Design Rule Check (DRC) and Set Layer Order action selects the largest polygon associated to the component node. If symbol graphics comprise of connected polylines instead of a polygon, the largest polygon selected might not be the complete symbol as expected, or intersect with the y axis at the component node.
See the following examples of how the DRC selects polygons if the symbol graphics include a combination of individual polylines and polygons.

To avoid selecting symbols which do not intersect with the y axis, you can specify a symbol property to enable the DRC to search for specific symbols:
Open the symbol diagram.
Open the Symbol Properties Dialog Box, and then click New.
Enter Component_Marker.
Enter any Value, clear the Visible check box, and then click OK.
Where components are styled with multiple symbols, the DRC will ignore symbols which do not have the Component_Marker property when searching for the largest polygon. If none of the symbols contain the property, all the symbols are searched.
If the DRC reports an error or you cannot open the Set Layer Order Dialog Box, verify that the symbol polygons and Layer attributes on all the components are as required, and use the “Graphic Drawing Tools” to ensure that the component graphics match the layer order on both sides of the bundle.
