Edit Wires Dialog Box
To access:
Press W.
Press Space Bar and enter Wires.
Click the icon.
From the Harness Design Browser, right-click either the Wires folder, or a single wire in the folder and select Wires.
Note If you select the Wires folder in the Harness Design browser, all wires on the design are presented in a Tabular View. If you select a single wire, the Form View is presented. To toggle between Tabular and Form views, click the Toggle Display icon or press Ctrl+T.
Used to specify wires and add wires to connectors, devices, and splices.

| Toggle Display / | Click or press Ctrl+T to toggle the dialog box between Form and Tabular views. |
| Create New Wire | Click to create a new wire with a new default name. |
| Duplicate Wire | Click or press Ctrl+D to create a duplicate copy of the selected wire. The next empty cavity is selected until one of the two end connectors is full. Only wire specification and configuration information and the following attributes are duplicated: Harness Included On BOM Included On Cut Chart Length Change Type Length Change Value Secondary Wire Number Terminal Material Code To rename a wire, double-click the wire, or select the wire and press F2. |
| Delete Wire | Click or press Ctrl+Del to delete the selected wire. The system displays a confirmation warning prior to deleting the selected wire. |
| Enter Filter String () / Clear Filter String () | In the field next to the Enter Filter String icon (), type a series of characters to display only wires with names containing those characters in the tree menu. The behavior of the filter varies depending on whether you use wildcards and the case (upper or lower) of the specified characters. See “Browser Tab and Dialog Box Filters” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide. Click the Clear Filter String icon () to clear the filter and view all wires in the design. |
| Wires | The Tabular View and the tree menu on the left-hand side of the dialog box, when in Form View, offers a list of all wires and shields available within the design. The following options are available. |
| Wire Name | The wire Name. To edit in the grid, double-click within the field and overwrite the existing content. To obtain names from object type information (as specified in Capital Project Manager) for particular a wire, click the ellipsis (...) to the right of the field and enter a name in the Name Selection Dialog Box. Mandatory. |
| From (Cavity) | Displays the Connector/Device/Splice/Backshell/Ring Terminal and Cavity specified for the wire End 1. Click the dropdown list to amend, if required. For modular connectors, the dropdown does not display any cavity that is blocked by a configured insert connector position. See Modular Connectors Overview. Optional. |
| To (Cavity) | Displays the Connector/Device/Splice/Backshell/Ring Terminal and Cavity specified for the wire End 2. Click the dropdown list to amend, if required. | Name | A unique label for the wire (within this design). Type a name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field to select from a list of pre-specified wire names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. If the name is not changed, the wire is named according to any default names configured for the project in Capital Project Manager. |
| Short Description | Automatically displays the Short Description field associated with the selected name for the wire if it is already defined in Capital Project Manager. If no predefined information exists, you can enter and edit the Short Description. This attribute is available for use in styling and for search queries. Optional. |
| Specification | These fields define the characteristics of the wire. If you associate a Library Part with the wire, these fields are populated automatically and will become read-only. Color Color of the wire insulation. Either type a color code into the field, or click the dropdown list and select a code from the Color Code Selection Dialog Box. Optional. Put a “/” between color code names to specify multiple colors for the wire. For example “BK/BLU”. Material The material from which the wire is made. Select a material code from the dropdown list. Optional. Spec The wire specification. Specifications are configured in the Wire Sizes Dialog Box in Capital Component Manager, and are associated with both a Material and a CSA. Therefore, you must select a Material before you can select a specification, and after selecting a specification, the CSA field will display the associated cross-sectional area. Optional. CSA The wire cross-sectional area. Wire CSAs are configured in the Wire Sizes dialog box in Capital Component Manager, and are associated with both a Material and a Spec. Therefore, to specify a CSA, select a Material and then a Spec. Manually entering a CSA value with an associated Material selected, results in the Spec being selected or overridden automatically. Optional. |
| Library Part | Specifies an association with a wire part number in the library. Select the required library part number type (Internal, Customer, or Supplier) and click the ellipsis (...) button. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a wire from the library. To view details for the associated part, click the button. To remove the associated part, click the button. Optional. |
| End-1 | The Connector/Device/Splice/Backshell and Cavity at which the wire end identified as End 1 terminates. Read-only. |
| End-2 | The Connector/Device/Splice/Backshell and Cavity at which the wire end identified as End 2 terminates. Read-only. |
| Component | Specifies the connector, device, or splice at which the wire end terminates. The dialog box offers a list of every connector, device, splice, or backshell on the design; select a connector, device, splice, or backshell and click OK. Alternatively, type the name of the connector, device, splice, or backshell in the field to jump to that entity. |
| Cavity | Displays all cavities for the connector, device, or splice selected. Specify the cavity at which the wire end terminates. A tooltip denotes which wires are used by which cavity. Available cavities are shown in bold and display a tooltip signifying that they are available, if no wires are currently terminated at them. For modular connectors, the list does not display any cavity that is blocked by a configured insert connector position. See Modular Connectors Overview. Optional. |
| Route | If the wire is terminating at a connector or device, the dropdown list offers all configured routes for selection. |
| Termination Method | When calculating whether a wire is cut and terminated automatically or cut and manually terminated, the system takes several factors into account. For example, the system assumes: If a wire terminates in a connector, the wire can be cut, stripped, and terminated automatically. If a wire is part of a multicore, it can only be cut and all other operations are manual. To manually override how the system terminates wires for labor costing purposes, select one of the following options: System Calculated — Default The system decides whether to cut and terminate automatically or to terminate separately. Optional. Cut and Terminate The system automatically cuts and terminates the wire. Optional. Terminate Separately The system terminates the wire manually. Optional. |
| Material | Specifies the terminal material driver used to select terminals for this wire end in Cavity Component Management. This field is completed automatically if the wire end terminates at a connector with a Terminal Material specified, and can be overridden manually. The field overrides any Terminal Material Code specified against the whole wire. Optional. |
| Type | Specifies the component type code used to select terminals for this wire end in Cavity Component Management. Optional. |
| Required Terminal | Displays the part number of the required wire end terminal, specified in Capital Logic Designer or Capital Wiring Integrator. The field is blank if no part number has been specified in the source design. Read-only. |
| Required Seal | Displays the part number of the required wire end cavity seal specified in Capital Logic Designer or Capital Wiring Integrator. The field is blank if no part number has been specified in the source design. Read-only. |
| Components | Click the icon to open the Add Multi-Location Wire End Component Dialog Box. Click the Add button, to open the Part Selection Dialog Box, and select a component to attach to the wire end. Multiple components can be added. To delete a component from the wire end, select the component in the list, and then click the minus (-) button. Optional. |
| Option | Specifies the options in which the wire exists. To create or edit an option expression, click the ellipsis (...) button and use the Edit Option Expression Dialog Box. Alternatively, enter or modify an option expression directly within the field. Optional. |
| Level | If the current harness design has been synchronized with a Capital Systems Integrator design, this field displays the harness levels in which the wire exists. See also Synchronizing from a Capital Systems Integrator Design. Read-only. |

| Assembly | If the wire forms part of an assembly this field displays the assembly name. Read-only. |
| BOM ID | Specifies a unique identifier to be displayed against the component in the Bill of Materials table, the Composite BOM table, and in Bill of Material reports generated from Capital E/E Reporter. This attribute is only available when a library part is assigned. Optional. BOM IDs can be automatically prefixed in tables and reports based on project preferences you have configured. |
| Color Description | Details the description of the color code specified for the wire. Read-only. |
| End-1 Location | The connector/device/splice/backshell and cavity at which the wire end identified as End 1 terminates. Read-only. |
| End-2 Location | The connector/device/splice/backshell and cavity at which the wire end identified as End 2 terminates. Read-only. |
| Group Name | The Group Name to which this component belongs. Read-only. |
| Harness | Used for mapping Capital Logic Designer objects to Capital Harness Designer harnesses during synchronization. See Specifying the Harness Attribute for an Object in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide. Default is the current harness design name. Enter a new name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to select from a list of pre-specified harness names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. Optional. |
| Included On BOM | Specifies whether the wire is ignored when generating a bill of materials (cleared) or whether it should be included (selected). Also applies to any components associated with this one, see Included On BOM Setting. Optional. |
| Included On Cut Chart | Specifies whether the wire is ignored when generating a Wire Cutting Chart (cleared) or whether it should be included (selected). Optional. |
| Is Variant Position | Specifies that this is a variant position wire. Read‑only. |
| Length Change Type | Specifies how any Length Change Value is applied to the wire. Optional. Choose from: Absolute The calculated wire length is replaced with the value of the Length Change Value field. Offset The value in the Length Change Value field is added to the calculated wire length (negative values are subtracted). If the wires are part of a multicore, the wire offset will not affect the calculated length of the multicore. To add an offset to a multicore, use the Offset option in the Edit Multicore Dialog Box. Neither Any value in the Length Change Value field is ignored. |
| Length Change Value | Specifies a value used to override the calculated wire length. How the value is applied to the calculated wire length is controlled by the setting of the Length Change Type option. Optional. |
| MCad ID | If the harness was bridged in from an MCAD application, this field displays the component's unique identifier as derived from the external data. Read-only. |
| Multicore | If the wire is assigned as the inner core of a multicore, the name of that multicore is displayed here. Read-only. |
| Multicore Option | If the wire is assigned as the inner core of a multicore, the multicore option is displayed here. Read-only. |
| Secondary Wire Number | Used to specify the customer part number for the wire if the internal part number is used as the primary wire number. Optional. |
| Source Signal Name | If the wire has been imported from an external logical design tool (such as Capital Logic Designer), this field displays the name of any signal property associated with the wire. Read-only. |
| Terminal Material Code | Specifies the material used to select terminals for this wire in Cavity Component Management. This value is typically inherited from a synchronized Capital Logic Designer design, but can be entered manually. This value is overridden by any Terminal Material specified against the connector at which this wire terminates (for that wire end only), or by any wire-end terminal material specified. Optional. |
| Type Code | List of component type codes, as maintained in Capital Component Manager, used to filter the selection of components displayed when searching for a wire using the Part Selection Dialog Box. Optional. |
| Type Description | Details the description of the type code specified. Read-only. |
| Unit of Measure | Details the unit of measurement used. Read-only. |
| Unmodified Length | The unmodified length of the wire, as calculated by the system harness engineering calculations. This length is zero if Harness Engineering has not been run. Read-only. |

| Module | Specifies the modules to which this wire is assigned. If a wire is created by the synchronization of data from Capital Logic Designer or Capital Systems Integrator, this field displays the assigned module codes, but this can be overwritten. To specify Module codes, separate them with a forward slash (/). Codes cannot begin or end with a forward slash or a space. Optional. |

| Center Strip Splices | This table lists all splices on the design at which the wire can be center-stripped to create an electrical junction. To create a center-strip splice, select the check option at the start of the relevant row, and then complete the relevant fields: Name The name of the splice at which the center-strip is created. Read-only. Strip Length The amount of insulation stripped from the wire to expose the core at the junction point. Mandatory. Order By default, wires are routed through selected splices using the shortest path. Length Change Type Specifies how any Distance Change is applied to the center-strip. Choose from: Absolute — The calculated center-strip length is replaced with the value of the Distance Change field. Neither — Any value in the Distance Change field is ignored. Offset — The value in the Distance Change field is added to the calculated center-strip length (negative values are subtracted). Distance Change Specifies a value to modify the calculated distance of the center strip from End 1 of the wire during Harness Engineering. Optional. Unmodified Length The unmodified length of the center-strip, as calculated by the system. This length is zero if Harness Engineering has not been run. Read-only. Modified Length Displays the calculated length of the center-strip following Harness Engineering. Read-only. |
| Wire Markers | A text label can be defined using three parameters (Color Code, Spacing, and Marker Text) associated to the label’s position on the wire. The parameters are specified automatically using Markers constraints or manually using the following fields: Overridden Clear by default on wire markers applied by constraints. Select to enable manual entries and change markers applied by marker constraints. If selected, the marker values are not overwritten by marker constraints. Check box is selected by default on imported markers and when child designs are generated during composite breakdown. Optional. Position The location on the wire length at which the marker is applied. Read-only. The following options are available: End 1 The marker is applied to the end of the wire nominated as End 1, as defined by the options selected on the Details tab. End 2 The marker is applied to the end of the wire nominated as End 2. Middle The marker is applied at the mid-point of the wire. Spaced Markers are applied along the length of the wire at intervals dictated by the Spacing value. Color Code Marker color selected from the dropdown list. Put a “/” between color code names to specify multiple colors for the markers. For example “BK/BLU”. Optional. Spacing Interval at which spaced markers are applied for configurations with a Position value of Spaced. Optional. Marker Text Text applied to the wire. Optional. |

Usage Notes
A tooltip denotes which wires are used on which cavity. Available cavities are shown in bold and display a tooltip signifying that they are available, if no wires are currently terminated at them.
If inconsistent data has been entered in a field, the Apply button is dimmed. A tooltip on the Apply button displays details of the inconsistencies and the inconsistent field is highlighted in red.
Wires that have been changed are highlighted and their name is displayed in orange colored text.
Choose a wire in the menu, click the icon to switch to Form View, which displays the General tab and the selected wire’s details.
Double-click a wire in the menu (or click the [+] symbol) to display the wire end details. Choose a wire end, and then click the Details tab to display the wire’s details.
Click the New button to add a wire to the menu, and then specify, terminate, or associate with a Library Part, if required.
Choose a wire in the menu, and then click the Delete button to remove the wire from the list.
Shields only exist within the context of a parent multicore, and cannot be created or deleted from this dialog box.
If the Project Preference “Only allow Capital Harness Designer-authored wires and multicores to be edited and deleted” is set:
A warning message displays on opening this dialog box.
All non-Capital Harness Designer authored wires display in the dialog box with a strike through. For example: .
Caution
If any non-Capital Harness Designer authored wires were modified on closing the dialog box, a message warns that all changes made will be abandoned. Changes made to valid Capital Harness Designer authored wires in the same session are also abandoned.

- Various fields are disabled if the Release Level of the design does not include the “Capital Harness Designer Wire Editing” behavior. See the Release Level Behaviors topic in the Capital Project Manager User Guide for full details.
