Placing Variant ICDs

Mutually exclusive common devices can be represented within Capital as a single logical device, referencing multiple variant ICDs. The ICD information, created in Capital Device Modeler defines where the variant devices are instantiated within Capital Systems Integrator.

Variant ICDs can be created in Capital Device Modeler provided that they adhere to the following rules. The ICDs must have the same role name, revision and applicability. However, that can have a different number of pins and different pin names and they must have different options expressions.

Variant ICDs are displayed in the ICD tab, highlighted by the following icon (). They can be dragged and dropped on to the design in the normal manner.

When a variant ICD is placed the system does not propagate part number or footprint information, even if the project preference 'Do not propagate part and library details' is enabled. The assignment of part and footprint details is carried out in Capital Systems Integrator when the single logic device is variantly placed using the options on each ICD. On placement a custom constraint reads the option and pulls the part and footprint details from the ICD in Capital Device Modeler.

Note

The properties of all the variant ICDs will be written to the single logic device. If two variants have the same property name but different values then this property is not added to the device.
