Creating

a Multicore or Overbraid Without a Library Part

You can create a multicore or overbraid without assigning a library part to it.

Restrictions and Limitations

  • Oval multicores are synchronized in Capital Harness Designer / Modular as non‑shielded multicores if no shield termination is connected to the multicore.

  • The conductors you select must all be non-shared objects or shared objects. To create a shared multicore or overbraid containing a mixture of non‑shared and shared conductors, see Creating a Shared Multicore or Overbraid

  • A conductor can belong to only one multicore or overbraid at a time. Conductors that have already been added to a multicore or overbraid are removed from the Available Conductors list. However, if you create a new multicore or overbraid, it is displayed in the Available Conductors list the next time you access the Generic Multicore dialog box or Overbraid dialog box.

  • You must add a shield termination to shielded multicores and to overbraids. If the library part does not have a shield termination defined, you must right‑click an inner core in the Design Browser and select Designate Shield to designate one of the inner cores as the shield termination. You can then connect a shield termination to one of the indicator hookups. See Adding a Shield Termination.

Prerequisites

  • The conductors to add to the multicore or overbraid already exist in the design.

Procedure

  1. Press the space bar and enter Multicore or Overbraid, and then select Add Multicore or Add Overbraid from the Home ribbon.The Generic Multicore Dialog Box or Overbraid Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. To add a multicore or overbraid: Click the Add button ().
    The Edit Multicore Dialog Box or Edit Overbraid Dialog Box is displayed.

Select the Default Name check box to create the name automatically or clear the check box and type a unique name in the Name field. (Edit Multicore dialog box only) Select the Shielded check box to create the multicore with an unplaced shield or clear the check box to create a sheathed multicore.Restriction You cannot use the Shielded check box to create a shielded twisted multicore or to switch a shielded multicore to a sheathed multicore. To shield a twisted multicore, you must add the twisted multicore to another shielded oval or coax multicore.

Choose the indicator type to apply. Click OK. The multicore or overbraid is added to the Multicores or Overbraids list in the Generic Multicore dialog box or Overbraid dialog box with the selected indicators listed as a child node of the multicore or overbraid node.

  1. To add the conductors:Select the multicore or overbraid in the Multicores list or Overbraids list. Choose the conductors in the Available Conductors list.

                     Click the Add
                         button () to list the conductors under the
                         multicore or overbraid node.
    

Click OK.

Results

  • The multicore or overbraid indicators are attached to the conductors on the diagram. Note By default, indicators span the space between the conductors in the multicore or overbraid. If the conductors in the multicore or overbraid are too far apart, the indicators will be split. You can use the Toggle Indicators action to change whether the indicators are split. See Toggling Multicore and Overbraid Indicators.

  • The multicore or overbraid is added to the Multicores folder or Overbraids folder in the Design Browser. The conductors added to the new multicore or overbraid are removed from their original positions in the Conductors, Multicores, or Overbraids folders in the Design Browser, and are listed as child nodes of the new multicore or overbraid node.

  • If you create a shielded multicore, the unplaced shield is listed under the multicore node in the Design Browser. Tip You can double-click the unplaced shield to add the ends of the shield termination. See also Adding a Shield Termination.
