Share Dialog

	Box [Multicores and Overbraids]

To access: Select a multicore or overbraid indicator, and then press the space bar and enter Share, or right-click a multicore or overbraid indicator and select Share.

Used to promote a multicore or overbraid to be a shared object.

Objects

Field Description
Shared Multicores tab, Shared Overbraids tab Create New Select to create a new shared object. Name The name for the new shared object. The contents of this field are displayed in red if they are not unique within the project. Generated Select to specify that a name generated using advanced naming functionality should continue to be treated as a generated name. Only available for names generated using advanced naming functionality. See Advanced Naming Functionality for more information about generated names. Revision Specifies the version of the shared object, permitting multiple updated versions of the same shared object to exist in the database. See also Creating a New Revision of a Shared Object. Domains Specifies which domains must be assigned on your user account to access and edit the shared object. See Shared Objects and Domains.
Shared Multicores tab, Shared Overbraids tab (continued) Share Into Select to make the object being promoted an instance of an existing shared object. Shared objects list If the object being promoted has a library part associated with it, existing shared objects with the same library part assigned are listed. If Exact is selected, only shared multicores or overbraids with inner core structures that exactly match the inner core structure of the object being promoted are listed. Multicores with partially placed inner cores are not listed. If Subset is selected shared multicores or overbraids which have a structure which could contain the object being promoted as a subset of their top level are also listed. See the “Usage Notes” for examples of which multicores and overbraids different multicore and overbraid structures could contain.
Associate Cores tab Used to associate inner cores on the object being promoted with those on the existing shared object. Source Multicore list or Source Overbraid list Lists the inner core conductors on the object being promoted. Target Multicore list or Target Overbraid list Lists the inner core conductors in the existing shared object. Associations are created automatically for inner cores that are the same type and have the same name. If the names do not match associations are created based on the inner cores’ Material, Spec and Color attributes (as specified in the Specification section of the Properties Dialog Box), in that order of priority. Select a conductor in the Source Multicore list or Source Overbraid list then, select the conductor to associate it with in the Target Multicore list or Target Overbraid list, and then click Associate. Alternatively, click Associate All to automatically associate all conductors in the two lists (based on Material, Spec and Color), if possible. To remove an association between two inner cores, select the two inner cores and click Disassociate. To remove all associations click Disassociate All. A white check mark in a green circle is added to the icons of inner cores for which associations have been created, and is also added to the icons of multicores and overbraids which have had associations created for all their inner cores. When you select an inner core in the source or target list, the associated inner core is highlighted in the other list. Only available when Share Into is selected and an existing multicore or overbraid is selected in the shared objects list on the Shared Multicores or Shared Overbraids tab.

Usage Notes

For an existing shared multicore or overbraid to be added to the shared objects list when Subset is selected the following two conditions must both be met:

  • The existing shared object must be the same type of multicore or overbraid as the object being promoted. For example, they must both be shielded multicores, or both be twisted multicores, or both be overbraids.

  • The top level inner cores of the object being promoted must represent a subset of the top level inner cores of the shared object. For example, two inner core wires would represent a subset of three or more inner core wires.

Note Wires and nets are considered separately. A net does not represent a subset of a group of wires and a wire does not represent a subset of a group of nets.

In the example shown in Figure 230, neither MC4 nor MC6 represent an exact match of MC3. When sharing MC6 into an existing shared object, with Subset selected MC3 would be listed: they are both shielded multicores and both contain a two-wire twisted multicore at the top level of their inner cores. However, when sharing MC4 into an existing shared object, with Subset selected MC3 would not be listed: while MC4’s structure matches that of the inner core multicores in MC3 (that is, MC1 and MC2), MC4 is a twisted multicore whereas MC3 is (at its top level) a shielded multicore, and therefore MC4 is not a subset of the top level structure of MC3. (Note that, even if MC4 was also a shielded multicore, it would still not be a subset match for MC3, as MC4’s inner cores are wires, while MC3’s inner cores are multicores, so MC4’s top level inner cores do not represent a subset of the top level inner cores of MC4).
