Adding a Variant Position

Splice

You can place a splice whose position on a harness is determined by the derivative in which it exists. Variants of a splice (known as the primary position splice) can be created as the splice is originally placed, or can be created later; in either case, once one or more variants have been created, the variant wires needed to connect the new variant splices are created automatically.

Procedure

  1. Place a splice onto the harness design following the steps for Adding a Splice with an Associated Library Part.Note Ensure that the splice for which you are creating a variant has an Option Expression defined.

  2. Select one of the entities related to the splice, and then either:Press Space Bar and enter Edit

Right-click the selected entity and select Edit Splice

Double-click one of the related entities

The Edit Splice Dialog Box is displayed.

  1. On the Variant Positions tab, click the New button. The Node Selection Dialog Box is displayed. This lists all branch-end nodes at which no components have been placed and any empty splices, to enable mid-bundle splices to be used as placeholder splices.

  2. Select one or more nodes, and then click OK. A new line is added to the variant positions table for each node selected.

  3. Specify the Option Expression in which the splice variant will be placed at each node.

  4. Click OK. The following actions occur:The new variants are placed onto the design at the nodes specified, named according to the node at which they are placed, unless placed on an existing empty splice.

The new variants’ attributes are updated to display the Name of the original splice.

All wires terminating at the primary position splice have the splice’s option expression appended to theirs in the form: (Wire Option Expression) && (Splice Expression)

Variant wires are created automatically, identical to the wires from which they are created in all but their option expression. This will be appended with the option expression assigned to the variant position splice in Step 5, as described for the primary splice’s wires.

If you are creating a variant by editing an existing splice, the new variants are styled according to the defaults configured in the currently applied style set. Any styling overrides applied to the primary position splice are ignored.

The new variant position splices and variant wires are added to the Harness Design Browser.
