Forcing Entry Direction When Balancing Splices With Center-Stripped Wires

When balancing splices that include center-stripped wires, you have the option to force the other wires at the splice to enter the splice from a common direction. If there is more than one center strip splice on the wire, all the wires in all the splices on the wire will have the same entry direction. This can help in handling the assembly during the manufacturing process, and prevent damage to the splice.

Procedure

  1. Force Entry Direction can be selected:

                         From the ribbon at Automate > Splices > Balance (Force Entry)
    
                     
    
                     
                         As part of Harness Engineering during Harness
                             Processing, by selecting the option Force
                                 Common Direction For Wires In Center Strip
                             Splices.
    
  2. The system chooses an entry direction which minimizes the numbers of looped wires.
    If wires are forced to enter the splice from the opposite direction to their path, then a loop is required. Looped wires will have their length increased by the Looped Splice Wire Add-On Value, which can be configured in Project Preferences. See Project Preferences for Capital Harness Designer

  1. If the number of loops required is the same irrespective of direction, the system chooses an entry direction which minimizes the amount of material used, by considering the wire CSA.

  2. If considering the CSA does not give a solution, then the system will loop the longest wires.

Results

  • All wires connecting to all center-strip splices on a wire will enter the splices from a common direction.

  • Any wires where loops are required will have their length increased by the Looped Splice Wire Add-On Value.
