Managing Capital Dictionary Entries (Signals and Messages)

When working with Capital Dictionary, you can author the standard names for network signals and messages directly via the web client in Capital Networks. This is the same as for devices, Logic designs, and nets in the Capital Devices dictionary. You can also associate additional properties with the signals and messages. The system propagates these properties to network carriers when you associate the network signals with function signals in designs.

Prerequisites

In order to edit information, the table in the Messages or Signals panel must be unlocked.

Procedure

Determine what you want to do with the signals and messages.

Add a new dictionary entry on either the Signals or Messages panel

1. Click the icon above the panel to create a new entry; the system adds a row for the new entry.
2. Specify a name for the entry, together with a revision, short description and description. If other property columns are displayed, specify the values as required.
3. In the User Defined Properties column, specify property values as required:
   • Click the icon in the signal's row; a Properties screen displays.
   • Edit the property names and values as required.
4. Click the save icon to save the new dictionary entry.

Delete an existing dictionary entry from the Signals or Messages panel

1. Select the entry and click the delete icon above the panel.
2. The system removes the entry.

Create a revision of an existing signal or message

1. Select the signal or message by clicking the tick at the start of the row; the revise action becomes enabled.
2. Click the Revise icon above the panel; the system creates a new row above the existing entry. The row is a copy including any associated values, such as a signal's value table or the associated signals for a message. The name is the same but the revision increments either alphabetically or numerically depending on the existing value.
3. Edit the values in the row as required.
4. Click the save icon to save the new dictionary entry.

Note: It is only possible to revise one signal or message at a time. Selecting multiple rows disables the revise action.

Copy a message or signal to use as a template for a new entry

1. Select the signal or message by clicking the tick at the start of the row; the copy action becomes enabled.
2. Click the Copy icon above the panel; the system creates a new row above the existing entry. The row is a copy including any associated values, such as a signal's value table or the associated signals for a message. The name is appended with -copy.
3. Edit the values in the row as required.
4. Click the save icon to save the new dictionary entry.

Note: It is only possible to copy one signal or message at a time. Selecting multiple rows disables the copy action.

Results

The system makes any remaining dictionary entries available for use in designs.

Tip: Column visibility can be controlled by clicking the icon and ticking which columns you wish to show or hide. You can apply a sort order to any column in the table by clicking V in the column header. Available sort orders are ascending or descending. You can also pin the selected column to the left or right of the screen for viewing across large table entries by clicking Pin Left or Pin Right. The sort order and column pin can be removed by clicking x.
