Design Content Control Overview

The Design Content Control project preference “Use change policy for objects authored in” enables you to use change policies to control the modification and deletion of harness design objects based on the tool that originally authored them.

For example, you may want to prevent the harness design user from changing the part number of an object that was authored in Capital Systems Integrator.

This video demonstrates the use of this project preference.

You can use the project preference to control objects with the following origins:

• Originally authored in Capital Harness Designer.

• Bridged in (X2ML / HX2ML) from an external tool.

• Synchronized or bridged in (X2ML / HX2ML) from: Capital Logic Designer

To enable restrictions on deleting objects or edit their attributes / properties, you must configure a change policy to specify all the required permissions for each object type. See “Creating a Change Policy” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.

You then apply the change policy to the specific source authoring design application using the dropdown lists in the Project Preferences Dialog Box.

When you manually create an object or bridge / synchronize data into a harness design, objects are automatically tagged with the attribute “Origin” and a value to denote the original authoring tool. See also Origin Attribute.

When you are subsequently editing an object on the design, the system automatically checks the value of its “Origin” attribute to determine the original authoring tool. If that tool has a change policy assigned to it in the Design Content Control preference, restrictions configured in the change policy are applied to editing actions in the harness design.

Where the change policy prohibits an edit or delete action:

• Restricted fields and menu actions display dimmed. Tooltips display information about the restricted access.

• For interactions that are not initiated from a dialog box or menu (for example pressing Delete on the keyboard to delete an object), the system displays a message box and automatically undoes all attempted changes if the change policy prohibits the action. The Output Window displays feedback information when multi-selected objects are partially deleted.

Note

If your user account has a change policy controlling your permissions, and an authoring tool based change policy is specified in the Design Content Control project preference, editing is only enabled if permitted in both change policies.
