Attaching a Wire to a Multicore or Overbraid Shield

You can use the Add Wire function to terminate a non-shield wire at a multicore or overbraid hookup. The system automatically splices the wire to the indicator hookup and creates a shield termination of zero length.

Procedure

  1. Select the indicator hookup to attach the wire to.Note This first step makes it easier to locate the indicator hookup in Step 4, but is not mandatory and can be skipped.

  2. Press the space bar and enter Add Wire. The cursor changes to .

  3. Click to place the first end of the wire.To define sections of the wire, click the end of each section.

  4. To place the end point of the wire, double-click the indicator hookup where you want to place the wire or right-click the hookup and select Commit.

Results

  • The wire is added to the diagram and the Design Browser.

  • A splice and zero-length shield termination are added to the diagram at the indicator hookup. In the Design Browser the shield termination is shown as a child node of the multicore or overbraid.

Note

When placing a wire, if you hover over a pin on a device, connector, or splice, a circle is displayed around the pin to indicate that the wire will connect it to the pin. When you connect a conductor to a pin, the diamond around the pin disappears indicating that the conductor is connected.

You can connect more than one wire to each pin. You cannot connect a wire to a net.

Tip

To limit the wire to only horizontal and vertical sections, use Orthogonal Routing. See Using Orthogonal Routing.

If you are using Auto-route Net, you only need to place the start and the end points of the wire and the intermediate sections are created automatically. See Auto-Routing of Nets.
