Adding an Axial Dimension

You can add axial dimensions for point to point measurements between objects at nodes, symbol datums (generic or drill point), and dimension nodes, on full and non-full scale diagrams.

The Dimension Length Calculation Methods topic details how the dimension distances are calculated for all valid combinations of diagram type and dimension point.
All steps are applicable to full and non-full scale diagrams except where noted.

Prerequisites

The diagram contains valid node components, dimension nodes, and symbol datums that you can use as dimension points.

Procedure

Decide what kind of axial dimension you want to add:

If you want to...	Do the following...
Add an Axial X or Y Dimension Line	Press Space Bar and enter “Place axial x-dimension” or “Place axial y-dimension”. The cursor changes to . Either Hover the cursor over the node or datum at which you want to add the dimension from. The cursor changes to and the node is highlighted. Click to select the node. Or To create the axial dimension from a point on a bundle not associated with a node, click at the required point on the bundle to create a Dimension Node. Using the same method, select the node or datum to add the dimension to. Double-click to confirm the placement. Note If the diagram is non-full scale and one of the selected points is a symbol datum, you are prompted to manually enter the distance because the system cannot automatically calculate distances to objects that are not associated with a node. You can double-click the dimension value on the diagram and enter a different value, if required. The axial dimension indicator is placed. The target component, and the distance to it, are displayed.
Add an Axial XY dimension Line	Press Space Bar and enter “Place axial xy-dimension”. The cursor changes to . Either: Hover the cursor over the node or datum at which you want to add the dimension from. The cursor changes to and the node is highlighted. Click to select the node. Or To create the axial dimension from a point on a bundle not associated with a node, click at the required point on the bundle to create a Dimension Node. Using the same method, select the node or datum that you want to add the dimension to. Click the bundle segment that you want as the axis for the dimension to display against. The system displays an arrow mark to signify the side of the bundle that the dimension will display. You can flip the arrow by right-clicking it and selecting Flip. Double-click to confirm the placement: If the diagram is non-full scale and one of the selected points is a symbol datum, you are prompted to manually enter the distance. This is because the system cannot automatically calculate distances to objects that are not associated with a node. You can edit such manually added distances at a later date by double-clicking the dimension value on the diagram and entering a different value. The axial dimension indicator is placed. The target component, and the distance to it, are displayed.
