Converting Nets to Wires Overview (Interactive Flow)

In the interactive flow, converting nets to wires enables you to convert system designs into wiring designs. You can convert nets within a single design, or convert all the nets in a build list. The conversion is able to process both individual nets and nets inside multicores.

When you run the Nets to Wires action:

  • Where nets have junctions a splice is created.

  • Where nets appear in two designs a shared splice will ensure connectivity is unchanged.

  • All attributes and properties are transferred from the nets onto the generated wires.

  • Each generated wire multicore will have a structure that matches the source net multicore.

  • Splices, both shared and non-shared, are used to ensure connectivity is kept.

  • If the project contains Logic build lists you can choose to set the build list as the scope for the Nets to Wires conversion. If you do this with a design open and the design has a design abstraction assigned, only nets in designs in the selected build list that have that same abstraction will be converted. If there is no currently-open design or if the currently-open design does not have a design abstraction assigned, nets in all designs in the build list will be converted.

  • A summary of the objects created appears in the Convert Nets to Wires tab in the Output Window.

  • If additional system designs are added to your build list, re-running the Nets to Wires action will not affect existing wiring connectivity, nor will the newly created wires be merged with any existing shared wires (this task will need completing manually).

  • Net multicores having more than two terminations will result in multiple wire multicores being created, with splices, as shown in Figure 97 and Figure 98. Following the conversion manual clean-up may be required to remove unnecessary indicators and shield terminations. Tip You can convert butt splices to center strip splices. See Converting

  • How shield terminations are handled depends on how the nets are converted to wires. See Shield

Termination and Daisy Chain Conversion.

  • Conversion does not retain daisy chain connections; however, previous connectivity is retained with individually drawn shields. These shield terminations can be condensed into a daisy chain as part of a clean-up operation. Figure 99: Conversion of Daisy Chains

Note

The Nets to Wires action does not alter design intent. Connectivity following conversion is unchanged except for the use of wires instead of nets.

The Nets to Wires action cannot be undone. The current design, plus all other designs in the build list, is saved upon completion.
