Adding a Modular Connector

You place a modular connector onto a harness design by associating a parent connector (also known as a modular housing or modular shell) from the library and selecting the sub‑components (also known as sub-connectors or modular inserts) to be assigned.

Procedure

Press Space Bar and enter Connector. The cursor changes to .
Click to place the connector:If you click a node, the connector will be placed, anchored at that node.

If you click an empty area of the design, a new structure node will be created at which to anchor the connector.

The Add Connector Dialog Box is displayed.

Click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Library Part field. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a modular connector from the library. The associated modular connector will be displayed in the Library Part field.
Click the Modular Tab.
The tree menu on the left-hand side of the tab shows every position configured against the modular connector, with an icon () indicating that a position is empty. Select a position and then click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Library Part field. The Part Selection dialog box displays, showing only those optional sub-connectors available to the selected position.

Select and insert the required part; to display the associated sub-connector in the Library Part field.

The filled position in the tree menu shows a connector icon() with the part number of the assigned sub-component displayed to the right. Note You cannot assign a sub-connector insert where the no-entry icon () displays. Such positions are blocked by: A sub-connector insert (assigned to another position) that is configured to block this position. A wire or cavity component (terminal, seal, plug, or extra cavity component) that is inserted into a cavity that blocks the position of the sub-connector insert. See Modular Connectors Overview.
Click OK.

Results

The modular connector (housing) is added to the Harness Design Browser and all assigned sub-connectors are displayed, nested beneath it.

The modular connector is placed onto the design. The following connector entities are displayed:

For the modular connector (housing): The component part number

Any Name assigned to the modular connector

A position table

Any symbol associated with the connector

For each sub-connector (modular insert): A new structure node, attached to the structure node of the modular connector (housing) by a zero-length bundle.

The component part number

Any Name assigned to the sub-component

A connector cavity table

Any symbol associated with the connector Note The connector entities listed comprise the default offering as dictated by the style set shipped with Capital Harness Designer. Both the entities displayed, and the appearance of those entities, can be modified. See also the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide.

If the parent connector is a Purchase Part, the system sets its Included On BOM attribute to match the setting of its library definition. It sets the attribute to False for any child insert connectors. See Modular Connectors Overview.
