Add Device Dialog Box

To access: Press Space Bar and enter Device, alternatively use the keyboard shortcut Shift+V. All actions require left-click to place the device on the design.

Used to add / edit a device to a design, either by defining a new device part, or by associating a device part from the library.

Objects

Field	Description
General Tab
Name	A unique label for the device (within this design). Type a name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field to select from a list of pre-specified device names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. If this field is left blank, the device is named according to any default name configured for the project in Capital Project Manager. Optional.
Short Description	Automatically displays the Short Description of the device, if it is defined in Capital Project Manager. If no predefined information exists, you can enter and edit a Short Description. This field is available for use in styling and for search queries. Optional.
Library Part	Specifies an association with a device in the library. Select the required library part number type (Internal, Customer or Supplier) and click the ellipsis (...) button. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for, and insert a device from the library. You can view details for the associated part by clicking the button. The associated part can be removed by clicking the button. Optional.
Attributes Table	If a library part is selected, all attributes for which values can be specified against the library part are displayed and set to read-only.
BOM ID	Specifies a unique identifier to be displayed against the component in the Bill of Materials table, the Composite BOM table and in Bill of Material reports generated from Capital E/E Reporter. This attribute is only available when a library part is assigned. Optional. BOM IDs can be automatically prefixed in tables and reports based on project preferences you have configured.
Color Code	Specifies the color of the device. Either type a color code into the field, or select a code from the dropdown list. Optional. (Read-only if a library part number assigned.)
Color Description	Details the color code specified. Read-only.
Datum	Specifies the point within the device to which terminating wires should have their lengths measured. The default datum selection is specified for the harness design in the Edit Harness Details Dialog Box, but can be changed to Back, Front, or Tip. Term. Mandatory.
Greased	Specifies that the device should have grease applied. Optional.
Harness	Used for mapping Capital Logic Designer objects to Capital Harness Designer harnesses during synchronization. See Specifying the Harness Attribute for an Object in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide. Default is the current harness design name. Enter a new name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to select from a list of pre-specified harness names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. Optional.
Included On BOM	Specifies whether the device is ignored when generating a bill of materials during engineering calculations (cleared) or whether it is included (selected). Also applies to any components associated with this one, see Included On BOM Setting. Optional.
Material Code	Specifies the material from which the device is made. Select a material code from the dropdown list. Optional. (Read-only if a library part number assigned.)
Material Description	Details the material code specified. Read-only.
Name	The label specified for the device. Only displays when viewing the Attributes table in the Cavity Component Management Dialog Box. Read-only.
Part Number	The unique name identifying the library part associated with this device. Only displays when viewing the Attributes table in the Cavity Component Management dialog box. Read-only.
Num Pins	The number of pins on the device. Enter a valid number. Optional. (Read-only if a library part number assigned.)
Part Description	Provides a description of the part. Read-only.
Plugs Required	Select to apply plugs to all of the cavities without a terminating wire and override any cavity‑level selections. If cleared, the option in the Cavity Component Management dialog box to manually select a plug part from within the Plug P/N field of the Cavity Details table, is unavailable. Optional.
Sealed	Select to seal all of the cavities in the device. You can override each individual cavity in the Edit Wires Dialog Box. Appropriate seals are selected automatically for cavities with terminating wires. Optional.
Terminal Material Driver	Select a material code from the dropdown list, to specify the terminal material to be selected for all of the cavities during Cavity Component Management. Optional. Note This attribute specifies the Terminal Material value for any wire end terminating at this device. If a different terminal material is specified against the cavity on the Details tab in the Edit Wires Dialog Box, that value is used instead.
Unwired Terminals Required	Specifies that terminals should be selected for unwired cavities during Cavity Component Management and harness processing Part Selection.
Type Code	Offers a list of component type codes, as maintained in Capital Component Manager, which can be used to filter the selection of components displayed when searching for a device using the Part Selection Dialog Box. Optional. (Read-only if a library part number assigned.)
Type Description	Details the type code specified. Read-only.
Unit of Measure	Details the unit of measurement used. Optional.
Weight	Enter the weight of the component. Optional. (Read-only if a library part number assigned.)
Show All Attributes	Toggles the display of editable/non-editable attributes. Optional, selected by default.
Configuration Panel
Option	Displays the option expressions applicable to the device. To create or edit an option expression, click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field and use the Edit Option Expression Dialog Box. Alternatively, you can enter or modify an option expression directly within the field. Optional.
User FM Codes	(This field is only available for Capital Harness Designer Modular see “User/Generated FM/PM Fields”)

Properties Tab	See Properties Tab Dialog Box.
Routes Tab	Use to specify a “dressed route” by which wires can enter and terminate within a device. Dressed routes are configured in Capital Component Manager and enable you to set different wire length add-on / knock-off values per cavity as required by the design. See “Dressed Connectors and Devices” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.
Node	The node at which a bundle enters the device. Read-only. Display dependent on device location node: Device located at a structure node: the start / end nodes of the bundle display. Device located at a reference node: the node name displays. When adding a new device, where the node doesn't yet exist: “Main Node” displays.
Route	If a Library Part is associated with the device, any routes configured against that part can be selected from the dropdown list. If no Library Part is associated, a name for the route can be entered into the field. Optional.
