Creating a Derivative Harness

Design

You can create a derivative of a composite harness, assigning option codes to identify which objects in the composite harness data exist within the derivative.

Procedure

  1. From the Project browser, navigate to the composite design for which you are creating a derivative, right-click and select New Derivative. The New Derivative Harness Design \ New Derivative Group Dialog Box is displayed.

  2. Enter a Name for the derivative design.

  3. Enter a Part Number and Revision. The combination of these two values must be unique within the database, not just within the project. If the combination is not unique, both fields are displayed in red, and you will not be able to create the derivative design until this issue is resolved.

  4. Enter a Domain if required.Note This field is read-only if the “Inherit domain of child design from composite design” project preference is set. See also Child Design Domain Inheritance.

  5. Specify which of the options available to the composite harness exist within this derivative. Click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Applicable Options field. The Applicable Options Dialog Box is displayed, to select the options available to the composite. Once selected, the options are displayed in the field.Note To create a derivative design that contains only the optionless content that is common to all derivatives (and none of the optional content) do not select any options at this step.

  6. Click OK.

Results

  • The derivative design is created and added to the Project browser in the following structure: A Derivatives folder is created beneath the composite design.

The derivative design is placed in the Derivatives folder, labeled with the design Name and Revision. Note It is not possible to create a diagram for a derivative design. Derivative diagrams are generated during Composite Breakdown.
