Refreshing Selected Symbols

The symbol selected for a component—whether manually, or by automatic name-matching with an associated library part—may need to be refreshed for any of the following reasons:

  • The symbol is edited in Capital Symbol Designer

  • The symbol is moved to a different symbol library in Capital Symbol Designer

  • The order in which the symbol libraries are searched is changed, in the associated style set, and another matching symbol is now required from a higher-priority library. See also “Adding a Symbol Library” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide.

  • The symbol to be used as a default when no other symbol is available is changed.

Note

In all these cases, if the symbol is used for display in a decoration with the 'Auto-Select By Query' setting, it will automatically be refreshed, you do not need to refresh.

For whatever reason, you can force the reselection of a primary symbol for one or more components using the following method:

Note

Reselecting a symbol will result in an Apply Styles action being performed on the selected components. See also “Applying Styles” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide.

Procedure

  1. Select the components for which you want to reselect symbols.

  2. Either:Press Space Bar and enter Reselect Symbol.

Right-click and select Reselect Symbol.

The associated symbol is reselected. If the symbol was manually specified, any changes will be reflected in the refreshed symbol. If it was selected automatically, the routine will run again, selecting a symbol based on the new circumstances.
